LINK: Doubts arise about Mississippi's offense after Mullen out-coaches Moorhead

Part of the article:

After Mississippi State punted for the fifth-straight time late in the fourth quarter against Florida, Hill lost his temper. He appeared to berate head coach Joe Moorhead before some teammates pulled him away and cooled him down.

Hill isn’t the only one upset with Moorhead’s offense. Fans and players alike have voiced frustration at MSU’s feeble offensive production. The Bulldogs have scored one touchdown in their last eight quarters.

“This sucks, obviously, two weeks in a row,” senior quarterback Nick Fitzgerald said.

Problem is you have to have a measurable IQ to run JoeMo's offense. That is a rare commodity at Mississippi State....

Works a lot better with Saquon and Trace. And even then, both had to improvise a lot.

That has crossed my mind also. And with respect to our own situation, I do wonder how we'll be after Trace leaves. If you take yesterday's game as an example, I'd say with most any other QB, we lose handily.

I think either Stevens or Clifford will be fine next year. I actually like Rahne's offense with more designed runs and we'll have lots of options at the skill positions. Key is OL - those guys should be solid though.

Yes. Improv was important to the O success and those two guys are/were pretty good. A big part of the necessity to improv was that the OL play was pretty inconsistent, although last year pass protection was much better. We can't forget Godwin, Gesicki and Hamilton either. PSU had some real good, experienced skill players.

This is true.

You can't make chicken salad from chicken shit. You can't polish mud.
Coaches either get too much credit or too much blame.
That was my point in posting that article. Pretty amazing for a guy who received almost unanimous praise and went into Starkville, MS as the toast of the town. He got real stupid, real fast. Just the vicissitudes of being a football coach.

Nebraska has a lot of fans on the fire Frost train already. He got an empty cupboard to start with from a talent standpoint. Win now is universal desire.

Miss State has 18 starters back....

Sorry speaking independent of MSU, fans want to win now or fire the coach. NE was just another example of give the new dumb ass coach the boot. Just look at the angry ramblings on this forum. I can see second guessing, some temporary anger or disappointment is understandable. But CJF is a pretty darn good coach. We aren't getting a better one anytime soon. And there aren't many better.

Starkville, MS, about 125 miles from Jackson.

Wonder what JoeMo would have run on 4th and 5? Lol
We already know. From last year it was an incomplete pass
Last year JoeMo had 1:40to go 3 times out and needed a FG to win. He managed to lose 5 yes. If he had run it on second or third down SB would have hit his head on the goal posts

Fitzgerald has sucked two weeks in a row. Maybe he should look in the mirror to find who’s to blame. He will be on the bench within a few weeks.

Yup, particularly after I realized that I missed a "5."
I knew that it was Starkville and still ended up typing Jackson. I didn't know whether they were 12 or 152 miles apart though.

Frankly it took longer than many of us expected.

Clifford is the heir apparent. He’s got the “it” that winners need. Love Tommy but he needs to be a TE. He could be a good one.

Fitzgerald has better measurables than Trace, but not intangibles needed to work that offense.

Anybody have video of the altercation between Hill and Moorhead?

Didn't Shoop say he had to dramatically simplify his defense because for the first time in his career he had players too stupid to run it? I wonder if this is a similar situation.
