This thread is what’s wrong with this country. The investigation hasn’t concluded. We don’t actually know what happened. Yet here we are ready to convict Baldwin of murder. Due process folks.
What’s also wrong with this country is no one takes responsibility for their actions. THESE ARE GUNS! It doesn’t matter if you are a cop, a hunter, or an actor playing pretend. At the end of the day it is the PERSON HOLDING THE GUN AT ANY GIVEN TIME who is responsible for the gun and what it does while in their possession. End of story. This thread is what’s wrong with this country. The investigation hasn’t concluded. We don’t actually know what happened. Yet here we are ready to convict Baldwin of murder. Okay. Do we know all the facts? Maybe that happened and this was just a horrible accident that nobody could have seen coming despite proper handling of the weapon. Due process. What’s also wrong with this country is no one takes responsibility for their actions. THESE ARE GUNS! It doesn’t matter if you are a cop, a hunter, or an actor playing pretend. Can we agree on a few things that have been reported? I’ll lay them out and you let me know if you agree.Okay. Do we know all the facts? Maybe that happened and this was just a horrible accident that nobody could have seen coming despite proper handling of the weapon. Due process.
Balwin’s prop gun has killed more people than all of the guns in my gun cabinet combined. There is a certain amount of irony in that.I have it on good authority that he was off camera, pointed the gun at them as a joke and pulled the trigger.
Revised up to Murder 1.I heard about that when it happened but never heard the outcome, or at least that the cop was charged.
Technically, charged with manslaughter, not murder. But she's looking at some serious consequences if convicted.
That’s what’s been reported. I haven’t seen any police reports or any official statements from witnesses yet. But I believe these to be accurate statements at this time. Can we agree on a few things that have been reported? I’ll lay them out and you let me know if you agree.
1 - Alec Baldwin was holding an item in his hand that resembled a real gun while on a movie set that is known to have real and prop guns.
2- Alec Baldwin used said item in a manner consitent for its intended use, whether in a movie scene, a practice run, or for shits and giggles. We don’t know that situation, but we can agree that regardless of the situation, he had the item in his hand utilizing it for its intended purpose.
3- while utilizing said item (a gun, real or prop) Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger and a projectile fired out of it and killed 1 person and injured another.
Are we in agreement on the scenarios thus far?
I can’t with 100% certainty say the same thing.Balwin’s prop gun has killed more people than all of the guns in my gun cabinet combined. There is a certain amount of irony in that.
Ok, if we can agree that these are accurate statements, then the blame ultimately falls on Baldwin for killing the lady and injuring the guy. He had a gun or gun-like item in his hands and either didn’t know what he had or didn’t know it’s condition. He then proceeded to point it and pull the trigger. All failures of basic gun safety 101. It is always THE PERSON HOLDING THE GUN that needs to know what they are in possession of and it’s capabilities. Sure, you hope people around you have provided you with good information, but it is ultimately his responsibility. Just because they are famous and make movies and didn’t have an intent to injure someone doesn’t excuse them from the awesome responsibility of handling a firearm. Period. That’s what’s been reported. I haven’t seen any police reports or any official statements from witnesses yet. But I believe these to be accurate statements at this time.
If it was a live round that killed her, I’ll agree. If it was a faulty blank, then it’s not Baldwin’s fault. How should he have known?Ok, if we can agree that these are accurate statements, then the blame ultimately falls on Baldwin for killing the lady and injuring the guy. It was a through and through shot that lodged in the shoulder of a second person. Had to have been a live round. If it was a live round that killed her, I’ll agree. If it was a faulty blank, then it’s not Baldwin’s fault. How should he have known?
Did it? Or did something explode and it was shrapnel that hit the second person? As stated, I’m waiting for the police report. Due process. It was a through and through shot that lodged in the shoulder of a second person. Had to have been a live round.
I’ll partly agree with this, as there is an assumed amount of risk working in a space where weapons are prevalent. But one of the rules of gun safety is do NOT point your gun at anything you don’t intent to kill.If it was a live round that killed her, I’ll agree. If it was a faulty blank, then it’s not Baldwin’s fault. How should he have known?
This is absolutely BS. It is 100% the actors responsibility to make sure the firearm is safe. Why? Because with any real gun, it is the person holding it at the time to make sure it is safe. These rich actors can delegate driving, cooking, cleaning, planning, and other responsibilities to their hired help, but it is ALWAYS the gun holder who is responsible for the firearm. It’s gun safety 101. You can not delegate gun safety to someone else.
Revised up to Murder 1.

That’s not actually the law. There is no “I’m an actor defense”. There is a defense for reasonable mistake of fact and lack of intent.
How do you define prop? And what is the difference between a real gun and a prop gun? It’s a prop. Not a gun. You are wrong. Actors are not responsible for them as much as you would like for Baldwin to be. Simply not the case. Again - IT’S A PROP, not a gun. This isn’t an accident on a firing range. You read how others handled the prop and declared it safe before Baldwin fired it. Someone f’d up, but not Baldwin.
Just because your job is to be told what to do by others, doesn’t absolve you of responsibility.Forgot the part where the prop gun was declared ‘cold’ and safe for use by the 2nd director, whose job is to ensure the props are inspected prior to use. Sorry - when handed props to use they’re not further inspected by actors. Just like they don’t tell directors they’re going to say a different line than the one written. They do what they’re told.
How do you define prop? And what is the difference between a real gun and a prop gun?
So a prop gun, by your definition, is NOT a real gun that is somehow temporarily made incapable of firing? A prop gun is ALWAYS incapable of firing? I don’t know. Serious questions.Prop guns simulate gunfire and are not intended to maim/kill/injure. A real gun is intended to do those things.

Ok, the Brandon Lee incident was actually a real gun. I think there is confusion on what a “prop” gun is. I don’t believe “prop” means fake. I think prop means it was a real gun set in a condition that does not have a live round with live bullet. They are supposed to fire blanks. I do not know if you can put a live round in them but in previous instances of this kind of accident ‘something’ fires from the prop when it shouldn’t. See Brandon Lee; supposedly the remains of a live round fired.

The Los Angeles Times reported at the time that the actor, who was on the cusp of movie stardom with his leading role in the surreal thriller, was killed when co-star Michael Massee fired a prop gun in which a fragment of a bullet remained.
Following an investigation, District Attorney Jerry Spivey announced that no criminal charges would be filed over Lee's death, saying that while negligence was a factor, there was no evidence of criminal wrongdoing, the New York Times reported in September 1993.
Read your last post. You’re saying it at least suggesting that there is some special actor rule. Not the case.No one said it was. Show me criminal charges in similar instances - it doesn’t exist. Sorry. your last post.
Baldwin has been caustically anti gun and for example he was mocking Cheney prior to knowing what happened . Screw him, while he might not be guilty of a crime his actions helped create this disaster .This thread is what’s wrong with this country. The investigation hasn’t concluded. What happened with Brandon Lee was tragic. Although they referred to it as a prop gun, it was actually a real gun. The gun was used for 1 scene in which it required a real bullet, real casing, and real primer to be fired for the scene. Since there was no gun powder, the bullet looked real, but it did not fire a deadly round. However, the primer packed just enough punch that it pushed the bullet out of the casing and into the barrel of the gun where it went unnoticed for days until the gun was used again in another scene. This time, the scene called for a “blank” round which is a casing, with primer, and gun powder, but no bullet. A normal blank round will fire off like normal ammo and has a big fire flash that comes out of the barrel to make it look real. Unfortunately, the bullet that was sitting in the barrel was never noticed or cleared from the barrel, so effectively, Lee was shot with a live round.
Prop guns are real guns that will fire live rounds. They previously used a squib load, a round without powder but it had a bullet loaded into a cartridge .They are supposed to fire blanks. I do not know if you can put a live round in them but in previous instances of this kind of accident ‘something’ fires from the prop when it shouldn’t. See Brandon Lee; supposedly the remains of a live round fired.

The gun wasn’t properly examined prior to loading in a blank . Blank rounds have a normal powder charge and it was enough to propel the lodged bullet, killing Lee.
While they did not file charges , it was a possibility on who didn’t properly examine the gun.
These days it might be criminal .
As a gun owner I’m no fan of Baldwin’s politics on the subject. But that doesn’t make him guilty here.Baldwin has been caustically anti gun and for example he was mocking Cheney prior to knowing what happened . Screw him, while he might not be guilty of a crime his actions helped create this disaster .
He was speaking of the Brandon Lee issue.
Oh, more like it.First degree manslaughter. Not First degree murder.

Bullshit, complete and utter bullshit. Baldwin isn’t the one who was supposed to check the weapon .Okay. Do we know all the facts? Maybe that happened and this was just a horrible accident that nobody could have seen coming despite proper handling of the weapon. Due process.
Apparently you’re an expert on proper procedures on movie sets.Bullshit, complete and utter bullshit. Baldwin isn’t the one who was supposed to check the weapon .
However since he’s the head of production he’s the top of the food chain here. Replacing people and hiring potentially inadequate help is on him.
There should be no live rounds on set, period. The only potentially armed people should be hired professional security who have nothing to do with filming .
The gun armorers should have checked all weapons and kept them safe. There was no tragic accident , this was a F up or colossal proportions and it is very possible Baldwin played a part in it.
Expert rule 1: don’t kill people.Apparently you’re an expert on proper procedures on movie sets.
Seriously? So what are they supposed to do with these movies and tv programs? Use harsh words? Somehow I don't think John Wick will be the same.I’ll partly agree with this, as there is an assumed amount of risk working in a space where weapons are prevalent. But one of the rules of gun safety is do NOT point your gun at anything you don’t intent to kill.
