New show on HBO starring Kate Winslet as a hometown hero detective in a town (fictional Easttown) on the outskirts of Philadelphia, working to solve a year old missing persons case while dealing with the issues of her day to day life. Much has been made of her efforts to faithfully replicate a 'Philly' accent and for those from the area or know it well, you can tell when she's trying a bit too hard. Still, very high quality production values (Guy Pierce also stars) and HBO tends to hit more than miss. Wife and I watched the first episode and it has some Twin Peaks, The Killing, Sharp Objects vibes - all to say very good, and the ending really leaves you wanting to find out what's going on, why, and for how long. It's not available to binge watch, but worth checking out.

I watched the first episode Sunday night. I liked it though the only times I really noticed the Philly accent were when I noticed it being a little over the top. Regardless, I’m roped in and will now have to watch until the end.

They go pretty hard on the Philly stuff; at one point she's driving her car while eating a cheesesteak and gets out of it with a Wawa coffee cup. Also, all the beer is Yuengling and/or Rolling Rock. I like the show too.

filmed in Mont Clare pa according to Wiki....
Mont Clare is a village in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The village is located on the left bank of the Schuylkill River, opposite Phoenixville and Chester County. Mont Clare is at the site of the former Jacobs' ford. Mont Clare hosts the only functional lock and one of only two remaining watered stretches of the Schuylkill Canal. Mont Clare was the birthplace of the infamous outlaw Sundance Kid.
cool to know sluggo: "Mont Clare was the birthplace of the infamous outlaw Sundance Kid."
The Sundance Kid is seated first on the left

Looks interesting. I'll check it out thanks for the heads up.
I just started, ok am finishing up season 2 of Bosch and love it, really well done. I like all the old Wire actors in it. Lance Reddick scares me. LOL.
Also think Marvel has hit it out of the Park for Disney+ with WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So well done and was not expecting. I think I liked them more than the movies. 🤷‍♂️

I LOVED WandaVision; after the initial few episode intro, it really picked up and was super fun to watch. I like this format maybe a bit more than the movies too. I'm just starting Falcon and Winter Soldier, but the opening Falcon action sequence was as good and intense as anything I've seen in the movies. I CANNOT wait for Loki; that part of the MCU is why DC will never be able to touch Marvel unless they spend the time to develop the Lanterns and more New Gods stuff (which even then, isn't as good as Marvel's cosmic playground).

Agree about WandaVision it took me a couple of episodes probably up until the one with the block party then really started enjoying it.
That opening flight sequence in Winter Soldier was fantastic and blew me away.
Loki looks awesome and just a lot of fun.
DC is just seems hopelessly lost. I think I mentioned that I am a huge fan of the John Stewart Green Lantern from the Justice League animated series. That format would be excellent for he and Martian Manhunter and Hawkman.
It will be interesting to see Aldis Hodge as Hawkman in the new Black Adam.

DC is trying to do in a couple years what Marvel built 10 doing; there just isn't a cohesive vision or plan it seems. Zack Snyder is a better than average superhero film director (I think he nailed Watchmen), but he's not the guy I want to guide my biggest IP franchises. I will say the DC TV shows (Doom Patrol, Harley Quinn animated series) are really great.

They also filmed in or near Aston which has been my family’s stomping grounds for 300+ years, so I definitely need to check it out

Not to hijack the thread but did you or @massimoManca II see the Simpson's episode on Sunday, Panic on the Streets of Springfield?
It was classic and I say that as a huge Smiths fan.

I thought the first episode was pretty good. For those who know Coatsville and Phoenixville, you may recognize some of the scenes. Liked the recs for Cocos for pizza and La Spadas For cheesesteaks. The baby is actually twin boys of my old babysitter.

Man, I don't want to get into spoilers, but that whole plotline p*ssed me off. A lot.

Easttown exists

It exists, but the median household income is probably $150K-175K and there is no housing like in the original. I could see Mont Clare and it brought back memories of spending time there and Phoenixville in the 70's when the area was really nosediving. 90% of the stores in main st in Phoenixville were closed. I thought it had more of a chesco feel versus delco.

I heard there were references to #252 and Bryn Mawr in tonight's episode. LOL ...

There were several things that caught my ear/eye. One was Pennel Rd. (Rt5 352) and they were in Bogarts Bar and Restaurant in Boothwyn. Not sure why they feature Rolling Rock so much. Its really not big in Delco. Lite beer seems to be the most popular. Wow, that was some ending the other night.

In the May 16 episode, there is an entire scene in which a Penn State basketball game is on TV in the background.

I thought I caught a bit of PSU Football on briefly on the tv in an earlier episode. I made my wife pause the TV and rewind.

She got upset with me.

Picture of Springfield Delco native Tom Inglesby (Villanova PG #24 - Class of 1973 & father of "Mare" creator Brad Inglesby) on the wall at the Pizza shop where Deacon Mark was chased from...spotted by my astute wife!

Binged the first 6 episodes yesterday to watch tonight's finale.

35 minutes to go.

Kudos on the way they didn't leave every episode (save for #6) with a cliffhanger.
