Watt can’t stay on the field. Johnson is an All Pro. Wouldn’t do it even for Watt.

How far the Inquirer has fallen that stuff like this actually makes it past the editor.

You just paid your fragile quarterback $100 million with no healthy backup so lets trade the best RT in the league for one of the most overrated players in the league

I was wondering last night if the Eagles might look to the Steelers for a QB. I could see the Steelers dealing Dobbs. They seem to really like the 4th string guy (Devlin Hodges) in camp but don't have room for him. If they dealt Dobbs they could move Mason Rudolph to no 2 and keep Hodges.

Why. Neither of these injuries is long term. Sudfeld has a broken left wrist. His non-throwing hand. Sudfeld should be able to throw passes at practice. A broken wrist is about 4-5 weeks in cast then a few weeks to get full range back. He should be 100% bu mid-Sept. And last night was a concussion. He might be cleared from concussion protocol by mid-week. Why should the Eagles trade anything away, if their QB room is going to be 100% in about 4 weeks?

take it easy, take it eeeasssiyyyy. Don't let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy. We may lose or we may win, but we will never be here again. so open up I'm climbing in. But take it easy.

besides if the Eagles are going to get another QB for back up purposes, I see them getting somebody the Chiefs, Colts or the Bears toss aside, more in their tree.

I doubt it will be to the Eagles, but I definitely agree with you that the Steelers should look to move Dobbs. I'd say by the end of preseason there should be a number of teams looking for a viable backup so Steelers could easily get a 3rd round pick or better for him, as long as he continues to play well.

The simple answer is no

The foundation of a team is OL. If you have a good offensive line, you can do a lot. And if you are doing a lot on offense, you can play a much more aggressive scheme on defense. They feed each other.

Ask any analyst and they will tell you when they watch a game, they watch the line, that is where the game is won and lost.

You’re WAY overvaluing him. It would be more like a 6th-7th rounder, and maybe even conditional at that.

It is a position that teams WAY overpay for, especially if they are desperate. I guess we will see.

Edit: You are probably right. I just went back and looked at his career stats. For some reason I thought I remembered him stepping in for Ben in a game or two and playing well...I must have been hallucinating.

Drum beat getting louder in Philly.... moved on to Big V and draft picks.......
https://www.inquirer.com/eagles/eagles-trade-jadaveon-clowney-howie-roseman-20190822.html

The subject has gotten some play on sports talk radio. The fans that only look at stars, so to speak, and don't worry about draft picks, salary cap, team salary structure, etc. do seem to fall somewhere between intrigued and ready to make the deal. Those fans that do worry about the aforementioned, as well as most of the commentators/analysts, don't seem too interested in pursuing the trade.

Marcus Hayes is a columnist that isn't known for great analysis. I wouldn't put too much stock in what he writes.

FWIW, if it were just a straight-up trade for Big V, I might be tempted, even though the Birds would only get one year out of Clowney, unless they resigned him. Throwing in draft choices reduces my interest in the trade.

The trump card, which even Hayes raises, is does Clowney increase the chances of the Birds winning the Super Bowl. Most would answer yes to this, so it does increase the pressure to make the trade. The wild card is what is Clowney like on a team, and why is Houston looking to trade a former #1 pick in the draft? Guys like that don't usually get traded in the NFL unless they come with some unwanted baggage.

I’ve viewed Clowney as a product of hype and playing opposite JJ Watt. Despite being #1 overall and “being close” often, he never seemed to take the leap in production to support that hype. I don’t follow Houston closely, but Clowney never fell into that truly elite DE category for me.
