The subject has gotten some play on sports talk radio. The fans that only look at stars, so to speak, and don't worry about draft picks, salary cap, team salary structure, etc. do seem to fall somewhere between intrigued and ready to make the deal. Those fans that do worry about the aforementioned, as well as most of the commentators/analysts, don't seem too interested in pursuing the trade.
Marcus Hayes is a columnist that isn't known for great analysis. I wouldn't put too much stock in what he writes.
FWIW, if it were just a straight-up trade for Big V, I might be tempted, even though the Birds would only get one year out of Clowney, unless they resigned him. Throwing in draft choices reduces my interest in the trade.
The trump card, which even Hayes raises, is does Clowney increase the chances of the Birds winning the Super Bowl. Most would answer yes to this, so it does increase the pressure to make the trade. The wild card is what is Clowney like on a team, and why is Houston looking to trade a former #1 pick in the draft? Guys like that don't usually get traded in the NFL unless they come with some unwanted baggage.
