Looks really interesting; he adapted the screenplay from the novel, directs, and stars. Great cast too - Defoe, Baldwin, Willis, and others. Nice to see more original movies after another summer of sequels.

Edward Norton wrote, directed, produced and stars in this 1950s-set crime drama, about a private detective living with Tourette syndrome who ventures to solve the murder of his mentor and best friend — a mystery that carries him from the gin-soaked jazz clubs of Harlem to the slums of Brooklyn to the gilded halls of New York's power brokers.

Wow, amazing! I thought he was dead!

the best actor of his generation, imo

His career has been interesting - knocked it out of the park early on with Primal Fear, American History X, Rounders, Fight Club, Red Dragon, 25th Hour, People vs. Larry Flint - then sort of did a movie a year or so until Birdman and Moonrise Kingdom more recently. He’s good at everything and I’m happy to see him doing more projects. Definitely robbed for AHX (recall who beat Norton, Hanks, McKellan, and Nolte for the Oscar that year??).

Can't wait!!! OMG!! He's so dreamy. You know he was robbed of an award these people give to each other one time! OMG!!!

Guessing you don't consider Daniel Day Lewis, who is 12 years older than Norton, part of his generation?

I'd put Christian Bale there with Norton for consideration.
right, I think Lewis- who is also a very fine actor-is not the same generation and yes, Bale is also very, very good

Philip Seymour Hoffman was two years older - he was in that class.

My understanding is that Norton is a huge pain to work with, somewhat like Sean Penn in this regard. Just not worth the trouble.

Yeah, Bale too. But, great to watch when things work out.

The Painted Veil was excellent as well.
