My wife's 'inner-Philly' came out last night and despite her saying otherwise, she was really into the game and happy the Eagles won (mostly for her Dad I think, who actually wore Eagles gear yesterday - the first I've ever seen and he's a born and bred Bucks Co. resident). So, I sort of had to watch too (though I missed halftime while putting my daughter to bed). I did look forward to the commercials though - especially the movie ones. Those aside, which commercials did you like best? My favorite was the hot/cold Doritos/Mountain Dew Ice rap battle with Peter Dinklage and Morgan Freeman. Just so weird and unexpected....second favorite were the David Harbour (Stranger Things) Tide ads...Which ones were your favorites?

As an aside - noticed much less titillation than the 'GoDaddy.com' stuff of year's past.

In the DC area, we also had a Kirk Cousins/Fake Trump ad....meh.

I though the best SB commercial was the first one, which was the Paralympic "odds" commercial by Toyota. Heart wrenching, but uplifting.

Yeah, that was great but heart breaking to see a baby born without feet.

On the same note, the Hyundai ad promoting their charitable efforts for pediatric cancer seemed kind of forced and weird (but tear-jerking nonetheless).

That was probably my least favorite commercial ever in the world.

To each their own I guess.

I don't need Toyota to remind me during the super bowl that the world has problems.

That could be my all-time fave commercial. I loved the message. I stopped it and rewound it and made my kids pay close attention to the odds that kept popping up. Everyone is dealt a different hand, and some people do much more with much less. It was a true tear jerker and inspiring.

Hands down, the best was Eli and Odell dirty dancing!!

Ugh. Hated that. Thought it was the worst ad I've ever seen. And it was promoting the NFL? If I never see another commercial with a big-headed Manning brother I'll die a happy man.

Glad to hear you liked it! My sister is in advertising and that ad was her account.

The only one that I even remotely liked was the Kia ad with Steven Tyler.

The Dodge RAM truck with MLK's speech from 50 years previous was just so.....bad.

The whole super bowl commercial concept seems to have gone down hill over the years. Not as....cutting edge...

Well, playing up the Dinklange/GoT angle was smart. And he killed the Busta Rhymes song. Freeman didn't do as well, but still - funny and nice contrast.

Agreed- The Steven Tyler ad was very cool.

I don't disagree with anything you said. That's why I read Charles Dickens and teach my daughter wrong from right.

Seeing a baby with no legs... not really what I signed up for during the Superbowl.

Perhaps next year they will just show some people getting run over by cars.

Super bowls are a party atmosphere. I want the ads to make me laugh. Anything that gets preachy (coke, t-mobile) turns me off. The only ones that made me laugh were dirty dancing and hyundai. Hugging hyundai owners because they saved you from cancer... give me a break. I still haven't figured out how MLK has anything to do with dodge trucks. That one was strange too.

Worse was they were 'unsuspecting' owners; sort of ambushed by the company. They could have promoted their charity in a better way IMO.

One of the best SB games ever.....AND.....one of the worst years ever for commercials. They were very very disappointing.

As for the commercials, a big yawn. As for who had the most effective I would say Tide because when it was over theirs was the only product I could remember advertising.

On a side note, I hate when companies preach about the donation they will make if you buy their product. You want to donate to charity, great, just don't talk about it and use it to sell your product. Do it because it's the right thing to do.

I thought the Hyuandai ad was horrible. You don’t save people from cancer buying new cars. That leap is just really bad and almost sick in a way.

I didn’t mind the Toyota ad at all with the odds, thought it was pretty good.

What was the one with the babies preaching about, that seemed way over the top also.

The MLK ad was modeled after the Paul Harvey ad they did 6 or so years ago about farmers. That ad was really good as you think farmers and trucks together. Not sure why you think MLK and trucks, that made little sense.

Completely agree. Give me the lowest price and let me pick the charity that I want to donate to with the money I save.

Kia Stinger ad with Steven Tyler, while it botched its message (appealing to older guys? ) was ballsy enough to include legendary Lotus and McLaren F1 pilot Emerson Fittipaldi in a bizarre cameo at the beginning of the clip... that was enough to make it my favorite :)

Yeah, my Chester County wife was beside herself all game long. Even after the game was over I started to rewind one of the replay clips of the hail mary to show her the Eagles pass interferience that wasn't called and she flipped out on me. I threw her the remote and went to bed to allow her to watch the post game celebration by herself.

Not a great ad but preachy?

You really think I was talking about that diet coke ad? COKE! Every year they have a commercial pushing diversity. Remember America the Beautiful sung in a bunch of languages. They had same sex parents in their ad a couple years ago and apparently its a big deal this year that they used a gender neutral pronoun. I consider that preachy.

The Tide ads were brilliant (and brilliantly white too thanks to the Tide - LOL!). I loved how they tried to co-opt every other ad by pointing out how clean all the clothes in the ads would be. Honestly it had me looking at whether the shirts in other ads were brightly colored. Only draw back was after the first Tide ad aired a commercial for a movie with The Rock came on and, alas, his shirt was dirty.
