FX is and has been one of the best networks for quality TV for a while (Justified, The Americans, Legion, Fargo, American Horror Story, Sons of Anarchy, The Shield) and Atlanta is another out of the box creation really spreading it's creative wings this season. Donald Glover has allowed the characters to breathe a bit and the past two episodes have been fantastic (the ultra race relation/identity heavy 'Helen' and the balls out hilarious 'Barbershop'). Also loved the episode where Earn raced Michael Vick for cash outside of the strip club ('Make this quick.' - LOL). And the entire studio sequence where Al and Darius sort of just want to hang out and drink with the unassuming 'corporate' rapper who has a hell of a mean streak was scary and hilarious (Al's reactions to everything are the best).

Anyone else watching? I recall a few folks from last season who seemed to like it. Vanessa (Zazie Beetz) is gonna be a big star....

Aw! It's really, really good this year. The last episode was all about Al 'Paper Boi' trying to get a hair cut (it's hilarious) - and none of the other regulars are even in the episode (no Darius, no Earn, no Van, etc.). The episode prior was about Van taking Earn to a German folk festival in the 'burbs and you can sort of guess how that goes (Van is apparently fluent in German, and loves all the German games and stuff). It has a surreal feel at times.

Thanks for the heads up. I knew about but haven't seen any of the episodes. I'll have to look around and see if I can find them.
Also the reboot of Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have it on Netflix was very good and looks like season 2 is a go.
Hap and Leonard on AMC is pretty good as well and really looking forward to the next season of Into The Badlands.
Like you said lots of really good stuff on the "other" networks.

What? A She's Gotta Have It reboot? Man, I need to keep up. Had no idea. Would prefer a 'Do the Right Thing' reboot, but this will work.

Yea really well done.
DeWanda Wise is Nola Darling and she's very good and Lyriq Bent is Jamie Overstreet. He was the only
name I recognized but I thought all of them were excellent.
Spike Lee changed some things and then removed a big scene he didn't like from the original.
The scene where they're all dancing to Prince's Raspberry Beret was excellent.

OT a bit, but The Americans has upped the intensity of violence in the first two episodes so far. Great start to the final season.
But how does Elizabeth have time to do so many things, using all those different disguises?! How does she keep it all straight?!

Very entertaining stuff.

LOL. And poor Philip - his disguises look the worst.

I'm just getting to Season 4.....:(.

Duuuuuuuude.......check out the talent surrounding this:

After more than 10 years of development hell, Y: The Last Man is closer to the screen than ever before. FX has ordered a pilot for an adaptation of the blockbuster comic series, simply titled Y, from producer/writer Michael Green (American Gods, Logan, Bladerunner 2049).

If the pilot is greenlit for a series, Green will co-run with Melina Matsoukas (Insecure, Master of None), and Matsoukas will also direct the pilot. Y: The Last Man writer Brian K. Vaughan will executive produce.

Running for 60 issues from 2002 until 2008, Y: The Last Man is Brian K. Vaughan’s longest-running comic, and the creator is well known for crafting epic narratives. The core of its story is well summed up by FX’s press release: “All of the men are dead. But one. Based on the DC comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y traverses a world of women — exploring gender, race, class and survival.”

The comic centered around the travels of Yorick Brown and his pet Capuchin monkey, Ampersand, who are inexplicably the only male mammals to survive a gobal plague of biblical proportions. Yorick’s biology becomes the key to saving humanity from extinction within a generation, and other major plot threads of the series concern Israeli army commandos, secret agents, dying astronauts and Amazon-worshipping militant groups.

Y: The Last Man is one of the biggest recent successes of DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, and its creators, Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra, retain control of the rights to it. Those rights were first picked up by New Line Cinema in 2007 for a potential film, which went through several drafts, directors and trilogy-vs-stand-alone plans without ever going into production. With no movie in the works, the rights reverted to Vaughan and Guerra in 2014.

FX picked up the rights in 2015, and announced that Michael Green was attached to showrun a television adaptation in 2016. The announcement of a pilot is a significant step for the production — it means we just might see it on TV sometime soon.

As if Atlanta wasn't already crushing it this year, they go and unleash 'Teddy Perkins' - maybe the best episode of television I've seen the past few years. It's just - wow. Glover wrote the episode and stars as the titular recluse (pic below) who spends one hell of a creepy day with Darius who thinks he's driving to the country to simply picking up a free piano. FX aired the episode without commercials and it plays like American Horror Story or something - so f'n weird and awesome. Glover is killing it.

Watched this episode over the weekend.
Wow, pretty creepy.
I gotta say I would have never walked through the door after he answered it and I would never have
taken anything to drink he offered.
RUN AWAY!!!
Good episode though.

Just watched the most recent episode - 'FUBU'. I don't know how much it will resonate with everyone, but it was really, really impressive. It's more unpredictable Glover with a gut wrenching episode told in the form of a flashback to middle school for Al and Earn (young Al is everything though!). Can't believe next week is the season finale - this show is incredible.

Huge night for Donald Glover - drops super intense new video for his song 'This Is America' and slays it on SNL. Best episode in a long time.... Like someone said on twitter, this is the genius Kanye thinks he is.

So, any thoughts on the Season 2 (Robbin' Season) finale from Thursday? Don't want to get spoilerific or anything, but thought the episode was a bit jarring at first because it's a return to the more traditional, 'day in the life' type episode of Earn, Al, and Darius. But, it's anything but typical. Some really cool moments and quite a few callbacks to previous episodes this year (especially the season premiere, 'Florida Man'). But, of course, the stunner was the slick bit of a twist at the end. Really neat pacing and editing there and when Earn drops the bit of news Al *didn't know*, there are just a ton of questions. Of course, it sets things up nicely for next season, whatever shape or form that may be - Glover and his directing partner Murai have grown so much this season that I honestly have no idea what to expect next year.

I will say Al might be my favorite character on the show. After last week's episode you knew that things would probably be 'okay' between Earn and Al, but Al is proving he's way more in tune with how the world works and that while family is family, he can't afford for both he *and* Earn to fail. Good sh*t. My favorite show on TV right now.

Thoughts?
