FC/OT: Ole Miss having a rough week....

Shocking it’s KA - known in the South alternatively as “Triple K”. Their big party of the year is the “Old South” party and are good for at least one of these openly racist incidents per year.
Man, I’ve never heard of them - I don’t think they had a chapter at least when I was at PSU - but their Wikipedia page, from the history section detailing their old Klan connections to the “accusations of racism” section, is pretty grim. Gotta wonder the types of folks who self-select for membership in an organization with that history.

Yeah, there’s a normal KA I believe, and then this KA Order - cookie cutter, soon to be jowly, often rich, southern white boys with the same haircut. I knew a few working for southern members of congress - pretty much racist douches

They know what they’re signing up for, it’s a feature, not a bug.

ZERO punishment from the school.

"While the image is offensive, it did not present a violation of university code of conduct. It occurred off campus and was not part of a university-affiliated event," University of Mississippi spokesperson Rod Guajardo said in a statement."

Let me translate:

"They're just a bunch of good ole boys havin' fun"

Look, they're obviously scumbags and all, but seriously, are we now going to ask universities to be the policemen for off campus behavior that isn't actually university oriented? Now if they are convicted of crimes associated with this event, that may well be another story entirely

What's interesting is they were suspended from the fraternity, but not the university.

To paraphrase my good friend Pete Townshend

Meet the new South. Same as the old South.

Interestingly enough I arranged for a tour of congress for my intern through a friend who was a staffer for a Republican member (since voted out). So, he got us a tour through his connections with a Republican Senator from the deep south. The intern giving us the tour was a college age male who, once the tour was over, told us how his politics don't align with the Senator he works for despite being from the same state and his going to school in the heart of the deep south. He said he probably wouldn't have admitted that if we were tourists from his home state.
