fc OT SNL a Journey through time... I think this is hilarious NSFW?

So you watch every week? If not how in the hell do you know when it stopped being funny? SNL has always been hit or miss, but I don’t think you would know that apparently.

Hit or miss??? Then you never experienced it when it was actually funny, with real talent.

Stopped watching a long time ago when the writing and cast fell off the cliff.

Which cast or year? Be specific or you just want to be the the old man yelling which is a tired act in itself. Pssst, seen them all BTW.

YouTube is your friend. Go back and watch the "Not Ready For Prime Time Players," who are all household names and will be remembered. The last 15+ years of 'actors' aren't even a shadow of that cast (and writers).

I don’t need YouTube because I have always watched. You basically said you have an opinion on something you don’t know about or watch, not me. I can name 10 easily in the last 15 years who were funny as Sh!t and still make movies.

You can't avoid it, because SNL has become a political mouthpiece and resultant social media albatross.

Hey, to each his own. Enjoy your Michelob Ultra. I'll stick with Guinness.

Try a Russian Imperial Stout or some newer Porters. I bet Guinness was considered rare back in the day, but it is an Ultra lite now. That is the funny part of your post.

I like a proper pint when visiting the old country, but I wouldn’t brag about is as a status in 2019. I get your angle now, the political stuff hurts the snow flakes. Boo hoo they make fun of my beliefs or politics.

Stunned it's still on the air. Just goes to show how far network programming has fallen. Hasn't be funny in a long, long time (i.e., decades).

Agree, and yet there are a lot of people that still find humor in it
Back at PSU mid to late 70s we had the common room on the floor where they ran the cable for tv. Every Saturday night there would be kids that didn’t go out watching SNL. But what surprised me was the amount of guys that would leave parties or the bars to come back in time to watch it. I never understood this.

When SNL began, it was about humor. NBC lost that quite some time ago, whether through weakness in writing or acting talent. You're the one who seems offended that I don't find the recent editions as funny as the past. Contrast Dana Carvey's impressions of Bush senior (humor) to Baldwin's skits on Trump (political). Neither is even close to what was Belushi, Aykroyd, Murray, Radner, Newman, Chase, Curtin, and Morris back in the day. The modern version is just not funny, as evidenced by its ratings (or rather lack thereof). If SNL now needs to rely on polarized politics or off-color humor, the talent is clearly missing.

BTW, I always find it humorous when people resort to name-calling when they can't quite articulate or support their position through civilized dialogue.

Also BTW, no one in 'the old country' would consider Guinness 'Ultra lite.' I challenge you to state that out loud in a pub in Ireland on your next visit.

Yeah, because Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Bill Hader, Kristin Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, et al have had no success. Unless you’re counting the Emmy’s, box office hits, long-running hit sitcoms, and late night hosting.

You obviously know nothing of who has been on the show and what they’ve done the past 15 years, so why say anything.

Hey, I enjoy some of their stuff as well, but they're not even close to the originals. Which of these would you put on the same level as Belushi, Aykroyd, or Chase?

Comparing ratings from any show in the 70s to modern times is ridiculous and I’m sure you know that. To be the number one show in the 70s required a rating in the 30s. Today a show with a 12 would win it.

Tina Fey and Bill Hader can match talents in writing and comedic acting with anyone.

Tina Fey made 30 Rock, which was a fantastic sitcom. She’s also acted in multiple good comedy movies. Bill Hader was as good on SNL as anyone has been, and created Barry, for which i believe he won an Emmy last year for acting.

You stated you don’t watch it but offered an opinion on it. That isn’t name calling, you actually said it. It makes no sense at all to say I haven’t watched in 15 years but know whether or not it is funny or not. I haven’t watched Game of Thrones so I have no GD idea on how good it is or is not. So I do this crazy thing, I don’t comment on it.

I’ve seen SNL from the beginning with the original cast up until season 44. It’s always been political with some skits that worked and some that didn’t. I also know a ton of butt hurt people cannot stand that their party or elected members get made fun of so they cry about it. Not to mention the opening cast had 10 other channels to compete against. You had almost know choice but to watch it.

I’ll be sure to say that when I go back as I sip on Irish whiskey.

I love the people you name. I’d add Bill Murray as well as being my favorites. But Tina and Bill are just as good.

I just don't see it. When they have been part of something as memorable and timeless as Animal House, National Lampoon's Vacation (1/2/3), Ghostbusters, Blues Brothers, Caddyshack, Trading Places, or heck even a personal favorite Groundhog Day, then I'd be more apt to see them differently.

What I said is that you are exposed to SNL these days whether you want to be or not. If NBC/SNL has to make political or controversial statements for ratings or headlines, the talent for humor is clearly lacking.

You really don’t get it. They have always made political jokes, but there wasn’t 24x7 news media or the internet for people to play a victim when they said something that offended them. Social media is how most people see the skits now and some people cannot handle having their opinions made fun of. Same for late night talk shows as they live off of social media hits. If you missed the show back then, you simply didn’t see it. That isn’t the case anymore and most skits make it out. Good and bad. I can see you just want to say back in my day Sonny.... great for you then.

Yes! SNL has always parlayed some politics and controversy into the show, but it has departed from universal humor to controversy for the sake of (attempted) attention. Hey, if you like this version, power to you. Still had solid legs in the Murphy, Sandler, Farrell days, but it's just not a fun watch anymore.

You wouldn’t know which was my original point.

And yet I do; I followed the show until more recent years when it was no longer a shadow of itself. Really enjoyed some who came later like Farley, Piscapo, Spade, Hartman, Hammond, Shannon, and Nealon, It used to be that I would never miss it, but as the cast members were discarded/swapped out incessantly and the quality of the show declined, I lost interest.

So you don’t watch it, but you know about the current cast and what they are doing. Awesome logic.
