FC/OT: Tennessee settles with John Currie; lots of interesting stuff coming out...

Guess they settled for about $2.2mm. The best part though is all the good info coming out about their insanely poor HC search and some of the names attached. Looks like Mullen was his first option and seemed ready to sign until Kelly passed on Florida for UCLA. Schiano was next, but Currie seemed to think his hiring was a potential PR problem even if he is a good coach, so he reached out to USA Today writer Dan Wolken to help frame the hire in a positive light:



He's right about the 'wackos' part too.

do you think going forward, that any current coach with a 'good' job would reach out to an AD via text about his opening?? After all of this comes to light? You would think that if you call, the only record would be of a call that was placed to the AD, and if that got leaked out, the coach could always say, he wasnt calling for himself, but rather someone on his staff etc. I wonder how the people at GT feel about Paul Johnson trying to get out, or was it just using this to leverage his current situation?

It's a much less professional process than I thought - failing to return calls, writing desperate texts in all caps like Hoke, etc. Really slimy business.
