Really one of the all time greats, IMHO> Not just "Gomer Pile" but earlier, playing Gomer in the Andy Griffith series (opposite Andy and, probably the best TV character of all time, Barney Fife).
Dude had a hell of a singing voice too.

Used to spend my mornings before school (and during, if I could convince my mom I was too sick to go watching TBS and they always had Gomer Pyle, Three Stooges, Little Rascals, and Looney Toons on and those were just the best.

And in Black and White too.I am a little ahead of you.
I'd get home from school with a steady diet of:
I didn't get into Andy Griffith/Mayberry until later. When I was in my 30's my kids started to watch it. The story lines are crisp and timeless. I've always wondered, with the movie remakes so popular, why they don't brush off those scrips and remake them.

I thought of that Indy 500 stint just ending not long ago. I think he was made an honorary Hoosier.Sang at Indy 43 times I believe. Loved Andy Griffith and Gomer in my youth, and still would watch today.
RIP, Mr. Nabors.
