He is sooooo Joepa. Defense, special teams, run game but..........if you hang 17 on them at your place you will usually win. Wiscy only managed 6 and 17 would have done it
But Ferentz had JoePa’s #, that’s for sure. He was 8-3 or something close to that vs Paterno.I get what you’re trying to say, but Ferentz isn’t 1/10th the coach JoePa was. Also, JoePa had some great offensive teams as well. Can’t recall Ferentz ever having a great offense.
And Ferentz had half the talent…can’t imagine how that would go over on this board these days. But Ferentz had JoePa’s #, that’s for sure. He was 8-3 or something close to that vs Paterno.
Weird things happen in sports all the time. But Ferentz had JoePa’s #, that’s for sure. He was 8-3 or something close to that vs Paterno.
What was st. Joes record vs ferenz?I get what you’re trying to say, but Ferentz isn’t 1/10th the coach JoePa was. Also, JoePa had some great offensive teams as well. Can’t recall Ferentz ever having a great offense.
And here I thought Fickel and his new OC was bringing a more dynamic offense to Wisky. He is sooooo Joepa. Defense, special teams, run game but..........if you hang 17 on them at your place you will usually win. Wiscy only managed 6 and 17 would have done it
JoePa also turtled up against Carr every single year, even when he had the better team. no need to relive the cycle of Joes final 10 yearsBut Ferentz had JoePa’s #, that’s for sure. He was 8-3 or something close to that vs Paterno.
Be careful when talking about Joe's final 10 years. The early 2000s were a disaster but the last 6-7 years he averaged 10 wins and PSU would have had very strong teams in 2012 & 2013 if not for the sanctions and Freeh agency.JoePa also turtled up against Carr every single year, even when he had the better team. no need to relive the cycle of Joes final 10 years
yeah, but, aside from 2005 you could also circle the losses before the season even started and be right almost all the time.Be careful when talking about Joe's final 10 years. 2001: 5-6

2005: 11-1 BiG champs

2009: 11-2
2010: 7-6

2005 & 2008 BiG 10 champsyeah, but, aside from 2005 you could also circle the losses before the season even started and be right almost all the time.
i credit the defensive staff for carrying the entire program out of a hole and putting them back in the top 10-15.2005 & 2008 BiG 10 champs
3 top 8 finishes in last 6 years
O'Brien's 8-4 team might have been undefeated if not for Freeh agency. We lost our PK Fera and that alone cost us the first two games. We also lost our top WR (Brown - Okla), LB (Fortt - Cal), RB (Redd - USC). I think the 2012 team would have had a great chance to win the BiG. Furthermore, PSU had a top 6 recruiting class before it unraveled due to Sandusky.
To be clear I think Joe stayed too long. The early 2000s were a disaster. But suggesting that things were bad during Joe's final years doesn't seem accurate. Avg 10 win seasons, 2 BiG titles, 3 top 8 finishes, and a stacked team headed into 2012. Maybe credit Joe's staff for propping him up.
You could argue that PSU did the same thing by not playing Villeau vs Iowa and Illinois.2008 was nice until they needlessly threw it all away at Iowa, playing a hurt qb while the backup would have won it
One coaches at IowaPaterno:
409 wins
.749 win pct
2 national titles
4 undefeated seasons
24 bowl wins
.662 bowl win pct
30 consensus all-americans
Ferentz:
192 wins
.632 win pct
0 national titles
0 undefeated seasons (0 one-loss seasons too)
10 bowl wins
.526 bowl win pct
14 consensus all-americans
But otherwise basically the same.
it's not remotely the same. we knew going into 2008 that we were going to contend for a national title and by the Iowa game we definitely knew that was a possibility. we had already won in Columbus by that point and the whole thing was there for the takingYou could argue that PSU did the same thing by not playing Villeau vs Iowa and Illinois.
Are you suggesting Ferentz is a better coach than JoePa?What was st. Joes record vs ferenz?
Joe was just showing up to collect wins in those years. For all intents and purposes, Ferentz was picking up those wins against Tom Bradley, Larry Johnson, and a dysfunctional committee on offenseAre you suggesting Ferentz is a better coach than JoePa?
So do we not count any of Joe's wins during those years if we don't count the losses?Joe was just showing up to collect wins in those years. For all intents and purposes, Ferentz was picking up those wins against Tom Bradley, Larry Johnson, and a dysfunctional committee on offense
the wins and losses accrue to the head coach, but it's no secret that Joe was just hanging on to get to 400 wins, especially after 2008So do we not count any of Joe's wins during those years if we don't count the losses?

Iowa gets a lot of discussion given their fan behavior and the 25 point per game rule on Ferentz’s kid as their O coordinator. He is sooooo Joepa. Defense, special teams, run game but..........if you hang 17 on them at your place you will usually win. Wiscy only managed 6 and 17 would have done it
They are in the west. That is their main strength. He is sooooo Joepa. Defense, special teams, run game but..........if you hang 17 on them at your place you will usually win. Wiscy only managed 6 and 17 would have done it
Joe would never threw between the hash marks against Iowa. The sidelines were 2 defenders. Franklin has Ferentz's number. But Ferentz had JoePa’s #, that’s for sure. He was 8-3 or something close to that vs Paterno.
Wasn’t the 2005 the season that we got screwed on the Mich heel-toe call? Had a great shot at a natty if that wasn’t the call.Be careful when talking about Joe's final 10 years. yeah that was the year. but both texas and usc went undefeated and i don't know that he even would have made it to the national title game in any scenarioWasn’t the 2005 the season that we got screwed on the Mich heel-toe call? Had a great shot at a natty if that wasn’t the call.
How has the past decade been any different in that regard, except for 2016? Only difference is the head coach's salary.yeah, but, aside from 2005 you could also circle the losses before the season even started and be right almost all the time.
Still would have given Joe…..that over the hill old guy…. another undefeated season.yeah that was the year. but both texas and usc went undefeated and i don't know that he even would have made it to the national title game in any scenario
