PSU D vs. SMU Film Study

See link above. Tom Allen's newest finest hour -- shades of the Illinois game where in the second half his ability to pair hard-to-decipher coverages worked in harmony with simplistic but effective pressure schemes. On the back end, this looked a lot like what we saw Indiana do in 2020...which we had not seen much of in 2024 because Franklin prefers to showcase his athletes in man rather than zone. Have to wonder if that coverage ratio gets closer to 50-50 in the playoff considering how maddening this was for Jennings to figure out?

I learned some things from that Video.....great stuff. Watching it live it just seemed like we rushed 4 and beat their OL, but we actually schemed guys free on some plays and on others just beat them straight up.........

It wasn't all rainbows and unicorns especially early. Lots of communication on defense trying to understand responsibilities. A few times the ball was snapped while our guys were still talking to each other trying to figure things out. We had some personnel issues too.

It all got worked out but we didn't look that prepared at the beginning.

The tempo really got us out of position on that first drive. I don't think we quite knew how our DL was going to do stopping their run, rushing Jennings, and keeping his legs from being a factor. The one play, a 20+ yard gain to the TE was simply a bust. We put nobody on him and Jennings looked right just long enough to keep the safety from cheating over.

The 4th and short stop was pivotal. Jennings had a 1st down running, but he saw his TE a second too late to get the 6. Kudos to Wheatley, he broken that up or that's 6. Gabriel probably converts that one on us to be honest, but they are #1 for a reason.

The rest of the way, we just confused Jennings with the zone. Weather played a factor (see Allar's errant throws as well), but he lacked the arm talent to beat us.
