FLO - 125 Preview & Predictions

Franklin
Just my take. Nick will wrestle a very physical match, Nico type push, pull, twist, snap with a growing rate of offensive attacks.
Schram isn't going to press Nick very hard. As the match wears on Nick will wear him out and win going away.
It will only be the top 4 or 5 who will challenge Nick's ability to grind people into the ground and win going away.

I can't wait to watch him, I agree with you that he will grind most people into the ground by the third period, This will probably sound too saucy but I actually think only Gilman can beat him come Tourney Time

Dance has a unique style that gives people fits that haven't wrestled him. He works almost exclusively upper body, and is excellent at using people's momentum against them when they're pushing forward. He will be a very tough match up for Nick.

NJ.com picked up on the Flo 125 preview, and wrote and article centered around it, and whether Suriano will be a NCAA champion as a freshman. You can read the article at THIS LINK.

Looks like more people looking stupid and jumping on the hype bandwagon! I think Gulibon had the same hype his first year, how did that turn out? Time will tell if I'm the fool or CP and others. Ranking from your heart, kid has not one D1 match in him but CP feels good about it. I hope I have a good laugh at CP expense again. Clown ranking (maybe CP was wearing a clown costume when he was posting it, that would make more sense. Austin has a few clowns in that town) at least Gulibon had 3 years of D1 wrestling (counting RS year) to go by.

You're taking this way too seriously. Good golly, it's a pre-season prediction, and someone's opinion. Doubt you'd be posting if this was a Cowboy...but heck, that's your MO.

Enjoy the moment, and try to have a candid discussion about it, and ditch the attitude.

Here's the deal with pre-season anything (rankings, predictions, etc.)...NOT ONE OF THEM WILL BE ACCURATE, AND MOST WON'T BE CLOSE. So I'm guessing you're here, on a Penn State forum, flaming CP, and doing so by handpicking one wrestler out of the 120 that he's "predicting", before the season has begun, just because he's a Penn State wrestler and for no other reason. .

People tend to get excited about really talented wrestlers in their first year on the mat. Yes.

Mind you, if your position was, "I'm bearish on Suriano as a true freshman being a true contender," I don't think people would find that so outlandish. Lots of true freshman aren't actual contenders.

I'm also not all that sure what your basis for comparing him to Gulibon is.

probably off his meds again. you'd think the staff at the home would watch that more carefully ;).

Back to discussing 125. There will always be exceptions, but my observation over the years is that "college-muscle" is often a factor. An incoming freshman may have more potential, however is at a disadvantage against a SR or RSSR, even JR's that have been in a college wrestling room for 3 or 4 years.

Schram is a fine test but November matches don't mean much to me. I want to watch how Suriano improves over the months as its all about where he is in March, not November. I think he will grow by leaps and bounds this year but its hard to predict where he will end up but believe he will AA regardless and has the potential to be in the top half of the podium if he continues to improve.

All Excellent points about Dance, He is extremely talented and has some great wins under his belt and doesn't deserve to be overlooked by me. I just feel real saucy about this young man, I wrote that post after rewatching some of his matches on Flo. He looked to me even farther ahead of Nico as a true freshman and we all know how that turned out by Tourney time. His development during the season will be the telling sign. Is it November 11th yet??

I recall more than a few cowboy fans who predicted Chance would be an All-American his freshman year.

Soriano did something in the match a couple times that I hope will be part of Jimmy Guilibon's package this season. That is, the ability to get deep into the leg and then to have the power to lift the opponent and manipulate the opponent into a takedown and/or into back points.

We've seen that from some other top wrestlers too. Unless Jimmy has some back problems or something else that might hold him back, my hope is that he used the Gorilla Hulk Training methods in the off-season, so he can power his way through when he gets a deep shot or in this case when he is on top and he wants to control the opponent and bring him back to the mat.

It would be a huge boost to Jimmy's bag of tricks, if he can add the techniques and the power to finish things off when he has a leg... imho.

Wow you are trying hard... Are you getting paid by the reply? Here's my centavo. Spend it well.

Schram is a sturdy, low-scoring, defensive kind of guy, isnt he?
My impression is that is why Cael wasnt as interested in him as I thought he might be.
I expect him to give Nick a tough time indeed.

Pretty much what I think too. Kind of like Nico as a true frosh. Solid regular season and 5th at BIGs. #10 seed at NCAAs where he finished 2nd. If Suriano matches that or even gets close I will be quite happy.

PSU was plenty interested in Schram. Hosted him for an official visit.

He got accepted into Stanford. Realistically, he was never going to beat out Nico, and we were at the time also recruiting Cortez for the same spot.

Sorry if already posted.

Intermat has Suriano starting the season ranked #10. The highest ranked freshman.

Jimmy did this at 133 a few times and picked Clark up when finishing his winning shot in the Bryce Jordan Center. One of his signature wins that season. Hopefully a year of work has increased his size and strength to the point he can do this when needed at 141.

Jimmy has 23 bonus point victories among his 58 wins, but 32 of his total matches (93), or nearly one-third, were 3 point-or-fewer decisions (victories and losses). The stats suggest he's capable of separating himself a little more from most guys in the field with his scoring, but doesn't. Won't happen against the Heil's, Ashnault's, and McKenna's of the world, but trusting in his offense a little more will keep more opponents from being close at the end of a match. We've seen it in all sports...allowing a lesser opponent to hang around doesn't always end well.

Dropping this here because it doesn't seem worth its own thread but you can see the Ohio State wrestleoffs at their FB page here; preview with the scheduled matches here.
