Flo 165 and 174 rankings up

I'm hoping Bo is at 174 and Shakur and Cutch fight it out at 184. I don't think 174 (just a gut feeling) will work out much better from a weight control standpoint for Shakur than 165 did.

He wasn't too big when I saw him during the summer and said 174 was the plan because Nickal was going 184

yeah, but 9lbs isn't a whole lot for a growing young man... I imagine he was weighing 174 at least weekly last year...'84 would be a bit of a jump!

I didn't really get into his weight with him while he was here but 184 was his plan for this upcoming season before Nickal said he was going there

I understand & respect that FLO / Pyles is not ranking true freshmen.

But to turn around and not rank Joseph to start the season is fairly weak. I know it doesn't matter because he'll eventually climb the rankings, but it makes these pre season rankings seem pretty lame.

PSU might not start in the Top 10 of the team rankings. Lol

That said, when Joseph & Valencia enter the rankings, the Top 8 at 165 is going to be absolutely loaded.

Looks like CP put up 174 early by accident b/c it's no longer there.

I thought he had a pretty good explanation about Joseph. He'll be in the rankings quick.

He'll definitely be in there soon and fairly high but Who did Joseph beat last season that would put him in there?

Yes. Me too...We must have Bo at 174 this year for many reasons.....Like to see Rasheed at 184...He is definitely big enough......Wonder how Nevills is looking after lifting all year ?

I read his reasoning, but still .... moot point though.

It's a preseason ranking - it does nothing but generates some preseason discussion

lucky for you, I copied it :)

Bo Jo Takes Top Spot
For the 2nd year in a row, Bo Jordan starts the year on top of 174. This time, I doubt we'll see any mid-season weight changes for the two-time All American. He's been the picture of consistency the last two years only losing to two different wrestlers: Alex Dieringer and Isaac Jordan.

From Epperly-Reed I thought it fell rather simply in to place. Though guys like Weatherspoon and Reed were a bit erratic, their runs towards the end of the year combined with elite wins earn them high rankings. Jim Wilson has been solid down at 165 and will now be up at 74 for Stanford.

I'm especially excited to watch Brucki this year. He's notched wins over Jadaen Bernstein and Devin Skatzka. Looking at our 20 spot, Phil Bakuckas has a nice collection of wins including one over Lelund Weatherspoon along with Ricky Robertson, Gordon Wolf and Jack McKeever.

Email or tweet any questions/comments to christian.pyles@flosports.tv or @CPyles8.

Edit-the link works again, thought i would shorten that up!

Bo still has to win a wrestle-off before anything is decided. And Shak will have to compete with Cutch for that spot should Cutch lose.

The one good thing about Bo at 184 is that, should we underperform at 174, we have our own version of Myles Martin who can step right in and win a championship.

Joseph's post-high school credentials are really from freestyle earlier this year, and that doesn't count for much in collegiate rankings. He'll soon be earning a good ranking, but I have no problem with his not being ranked yet. Goodness, Bo N was something like 19th last year pre-season, and he had a much bigger body of work in his RS season.

Freestyle this year and last year ... he beat Anthony Ashnault and had tech fall wins over a couple of college wrestlers (including Dom Forys) last summer.

I don't disagree with your point, though, Tom. He didn't wrestle enough college competition last season to be considered for the preseason rankings. He could see Chad Walsh (#6) on Nov. 20th and Ryan Priesch (#9) on Dec. 4th, so it won't be long before he has a chance to earn a spot in the top 10.

he needed to make weight!

I understand these rankings mean nothing and all that counts is the end of the year, but I just don't get it. To not rank freshman, redshirt freshman etc is a cop out (IMO and I love Flo). Every other sport ranks preseason rankings based on people coming back AND talent coming in. As an example..if you had Lebron, Carmelo and Wade all coming out of high school..that college team would be ranked #1 preseason regardless that they didn't play one college game. Talent is talent. Then to see Nickal not ranked at 174 without any word from Cael or staff seems odd.

it is not a prediction but ranking based on past performance. Fine the way it is along as it is consistent.

Not to beat a dead horse but are rankings truly based on past performance or talent?

I gave a wild example concerning basketball. Every year Kentucky has 5 new freshman coming in and they have no past performance, but anyone with eyes, knows what's what. They end up being ranked top 5 year after year even after all the turnover.

At the end of the day..they are "rankings." For me it would be more fun to rank things off of what you think will happen compared to not ranking a guy because he hasn't stepped on a college mat yet even though they dominated "ranked" kids in all kinds of tournaments.
