Does anybody have a quick list of the other potential top candidates at each weight class? If the PSU wrestler made it to the finals against the highest ranked/seeded individual in their weight class, what match-ups would we see?
Thanks.

Which one? The Michigan or Missouri wrestler?

Aaron, I believe...125 for Missouri. Note to all...I did not put a lot of time into my list above, and only looked at the highest ranked starter from the schools that were bringing their A Team. Jump in and add others.

Bryce Meredith should be there as well at 141.

I was speculating that he could be there, but the more that I think about it, I don't think he will be. McGhee's status is too much of an uncertainty. They have a dual two days later.

125- Bresser (unattached- wishful thinking)
133- Erneste, Eicher
141- Gasca, Tristan Moran, Meredith (mentioned above)
149- Blaylock, Geo Martinez
157- Colt Shorts
165- Drew Hughes, Connor Flynn
174- Jacobe Smith
184- Andrew Marsden
197- Derek White
Hwt-

Edit- removed Trey Andrews--- RTOC not on Northern Colorado's schedule. They must be bringing backups.

This is what WrestleStat has compiled for participants.

*** DISCLAIMER: this list only contains the STARTERS for each school that has the tournament on their schedule. Obviously schools can/will bring more than just their starters...this is just a baseline.

Excellent. Thanks for this. Not sure how I could forget Subjeck haha. This list shows you how badly the OSU starters were needed. Damn you, Smith! Troll! Templeman another guy i've missed, but was pretty unimpressive at Vegas. Rohlfing at 141 had a nice tournament there.

Reno will be pretty bare.

Most frequently heard quote during the course of the tournament:
"Somebody wake up Nickal -- he's on deck."

If OSU isn't bringing their starters this tourney won't be much tougher than the Keystone Classic. Very few top-10 wrestlers aside from our own guys.

It's awful. Midlands ends the 30th compared to the Scuffle's 2nd. A week break before Minnesota/Nebraska away duals, and then a home week for Rutgers. Midlands was viable. And then of course Vegas is always an option. Not sure how long Lehigh/Bryce Jordan was in the works.

MSU was the only other BIG Ten team to skip every major season tournament

PSU going to midlands as a team appears to be a no go. Cael on the coaches show (i forget which show but roar can correct me) started to talk about this and then stopped after admitting to having problems with the tournament.

So the impression is scuffle or nothing. This year because of the big scheduling it's nothing.

Sucks for fans and for the sport from again a fan perspective but our room gives more of a challenge than many of the brackets of either tournament.

Sometimes you need that challenge and sometimes you need the rest.

In cael I trust....

Yes, I remember. PSU will never be at Midlands. Still would have liked Vegas, but I'm sure the Lehigh dual was in the works for awhile. I completely trust Cael. Don't really think it's going to hurt the team or anything. Scuffle or bust is just a disappointment for ME-- THE ENTITLED FAN!

We know he'd like a season tourney challenge (wanting to schedule Scuffle), yet we are left without one. I think he could have been a little more creative in scheduling, but I know it's complicated.

I like reno for recruiting purposes, but yes Vegas would have been better competition than the Reno style points tourney will be.

You and I agree that scheduling is a nightmare, trying to accomplish so many things in a single season.

Cody does a fantastic job in my opinion. I bust on the HR for the sisters of the poor duals but I respect the he!! Out of the brands for doing it and keeping it going.

So much goes into this sport that is missed by many of our message board brethern.

When the guys hit the mat in Bloomington, then again in St. Louis, all this talk will be forgotten. Keep your eye on the prize.

Guessing because many (most?) B10 teams go there, so it's redundant.
That makes sense. I asked because it sounded like there was some history there I wasn't aware of.

It's a bit disappointing Reno is shaping up to look like Keystone but we're still going to see the best teams in duals. No Missouri now, maybe no OSU, VA Tech and Cornell we weren't going to see anyway.

Last time a Cael-coached team went to Midlands, it was Cael's third (and final) year at Iowa State. The Cyclones were up 13 heading into the finals, and both them and Iowa had five in the championships and three in the consolations. Turned out the Cyclones went 0-5 in the finals, including Jake Varner getting upset on a late reversal by Dallas Herbst in the 197-pound final, and Iowa came back to win the Midlands title.

No offense, but I doubt very much that has anything to do with why Cael may not want to go to Midlands. I'm guessing here but probably a combination of some thing or things about the way the tournament is run and the fact that most of the top teams there are BIG teams.

True, but I think SHP was merely stating a fact, not trying to show causation or correlation ... much like there's no causation or correlation between deadlifts and getting out from bottom.

All kidding aside about Iowa, the Brands really are good ambassadors for the sport.

The Brands love wrestling and are very good for the sport. Iowa fans love wrestling and support the heck out of the sport and are very good for the sport.
That doesn't mean it isn't fun to poke fun at either/any/or all of them.
Just saying.

Not sure Quentin was right about that correlation. Deadlifting 450 pounds should make it easier to stand-up. Of course as hard as BoJo's legs were shaking his knees are so black and blue it probably hurts to stand up.
