Foles' situation next year?

A few simple questions, I think:

1. Is Foles under contract with the Eagles for next season?

2. What is the prognosis for Wentz's return next season?

3. Do we see Foles play for the Eagles next season before Wentz returns to the starting lineup? (I am not claiming that Foles would replace a healthy Wentz.)

Thanks!

1. Yes

2. He should be back by the beginning of the season but you never know with injuries.

3. Probably. What a great insurance policy.

Now that you have your ring, Foles is a luxury you do not need.
Trade him now that he has more value than he ever will.

Trade him?? No way. There is no guarantee Wentz will be ready for the opener. The LCL tear complicates and lengthens his recovery. Foles will be a great insurance policy.

Nicky six is on a two year contract. Total value is $11M. $7M guaranteed. He's a FA in 2019.

Foles has forever enshrined himself as a hero in Philadelphia and I'd hate to see him go. However if another team makes an insane offer for him the Eagles would be crazy to say no. It could all depend on what Foles wants. He's still going to get paid next year regardless of where he plays. Is his ego big enough that he feels like he has to be a #1 QB or is he more of a team player who doesn't feel disrespected by being the #2?

The possibility does exist that Carson Wentz will not be available to begin next season. Nick represents a very nice insurance policy.

Philly has the best QB situation in the league...but if the Browns offer the #1 pick in the draft for Foles, it would be hard to not take it. And if they did they would be foolish to draft Barkley. JMO

The Browns aren't offering a number 1 pick for Nick Foles, let alone the #1 overall pick.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. It will be interesting to see how Foles reacts to being a back-up again. He strikes me as a team player, but he has newfound fame and likely will have a lot of people in his ear about his future.

I'm sure he is a team player, but why would he want to stay around and back up Wentz? Wentz didn't win the super bowl, he did

Foles is currently in seminary to with ambitions to become a youth pastor and from everything that I have read that seems to be what he wants to do after he quits football...not really sure how much he cares about being qb1 and I don't think winning the super bowl affects his ego as much as people may want it too.

Really? The Foles situation will work it self out. The real question for the Eagles is, What do you do with Jason Peters? I think , he thinks, that he probably has a year or 2 left in the tank, so do you let him play? Trade him if you can? Cut him? But he has really been a Philly Warrior.
Big V played too well down the stretch to think anything other than he is your next LT, so what do you do with Peters? He uses alot of cap room.

Foles wilI never have more value than he does right now, and he is gone after next year. I would look to trade him to get some better DB's....Pats open all over the field! Maybe move up in the draft and get Minkah Fitzpatrick...

Eagles need picks. On the other hand, they are not contractually obligated to move Foles. Roseman is the most aggressive GM in the league. If someone puts together a package, then pull the trigger. Otherwise, sit tight and make run at a second title. All you have is today, make the best of it

I think as long as Wentz' recovery isn't 100% complete, you don't even think about this. After that, whatever works best for the long term. We don't know who is key to this team's chemistry- hopefully, they do.

I believe that in every contract there are far fetched incentives. I wonder if super bowl mvp is one in his? What would the cash value if that be? Lol

Garrapola went for a second round pick.

I agree a second or third round pick is more likely than a first rounder. However comparing to Garropalo isn't fair. Foles was just the Super Bowl MVP. Jimmy hasn't taken a meaningful snap in a playoff game (if he's even taken meaningless snap).

Foles will never garner a #1 pick. 2nd or 3rd rounder. Garrapola went for a second round pick.
Thats right...like it or not, Foles is not the starter, Wentz is. Jimmy went for a mid round #2 so that is where Foles would go too. The question for the birds is what is more valuable? A valid #2 that can win games or a second round pick? A lot depends on Foles, too. He may go to management with a play me or trade me request.

Interestingly, the Browns have the Eagles' #2 pick. From the Wentz deal. So the Browns have:
  • #1 in the first round
  • #4 in the first round
  • #33, second round (first pick of the second round)
  • #35, fourth pick of the second round
  • #64, last pick of the second round (from Eagles)

My guess is the browns may give up #35 or #64 & #97 (third round).

I saw an interview Foles did with Terry Bradshaw before the Vikings game. Terry asked him that question. If you go on to win the superbowl and you come back next year and are the back up and Foles responded that he is okay with that. Plus I thought it would be super aggressive for Wentz to be back by the first game of next season? He tore multiple ligaments.

Using a hockey analogy and what just happened -- the Pens won the Stanley Cup last season in large part because they didn't trade their backup goalie. Similarly, the Iggles won the Super Bowl because they had a capable backup QB. I think they would be fools to trade him away without getting a ton in return. As others have stated, no guarantee Wentz is ready to start the season. Plus, no guarantee he stays healthy once he gets back on the field.

Wentz is the future. No need to have a QB controversy next year and cannot have two QBs on the same team vying for leadership. Trade Foles before the draft as he has as much value now as he will ever have and get what you can get which should be a minimum of a couple of picks including maybe even a first rounder. Wentz will be back by at least October in plenty of time for Eagles to make the playoffs.

If they can get a ton, I'd trade him. If they can only get a second round pick, no way. A high quality backup insurance policy on your injured starting QB is worth a second round pick.

Things to consider:
1. Is Wentz going to be ready?
2. What can you get for Foles?
3. What other backups are available and at what price?

IF Wentz is healthy next July, Foles is a bargaining chip to get the Eagles help where thy need it (
Mike Maccagnan please pick up your phone.)

Totally agree. Think where the Eagles would be now after Wentz got hurt and the back up qb wasn’t Foles. You never know how Wentz’s recovery will go plus he’s at an increased risk of injury again as he’s a good running QB.

That said, how lucky are Eagles fans that this is considered a “problem”? ;)

Wendt could easily come back and be 100%.....and get injured again (as any player could get hurt at any time).

Why get rid of a player who’s proven his worth unless he destroys team chemistry, which Foles seems very unlikely to do. Keep him and be thankful you have him under contract for 2018!

OTOH, they could trade Wentz for multiple first round picks and create a super dynasty

?! The Eagles are SET at QB. What other player would you take over Barkley if you were the Eagles and had the No. 1 pick? Saquon Barkley > Minkah Fitzpatrick, and it ain't even close.

All reports say that the eagles are VERY impressed with Sudfeld. also, think about how the eagles don't have a 2nd, 3rd or 7th round pick. I can see, if they get offered something stupid for foles (a la Bradford) they could trade him and let Sudfeld be the 2. Regarding Wentz, with the news coming out that he tore his LCL as well as his ACL, everything I've read says while he could be ready for week 1, he'll essentially be a pocket QB for the first half of the season at least, IF he's even ready at all. and if there's one thing we learned with this super bowl it's that Foles didn't win the game, Pederson did. The last 2 weeks of the regular season foles looked like crap because they were still trying to run the O as if Wentz were in there. During the wild card weekend bye, they tweaked the O to Foles and look what happened. Add the SIGNIFICANT losses the eagles had during the year (hicks/peters/sproles/Sturgis/Maragos/wentz) and Pederson is clearly the most valuable piece to this team (in my opinion). I say that to really say I have faith that Pederson can go out and get another backup if they don't want to use Sudfeld, and be absolutely fine.

However.... try this on for size. Foles could retire. Think about it, he almost hung 'em up before he came to the eagles. He has made it clear that he wants to become a preacher. and he ALWAYS talks about his wife and little girl. Dude is a family man that plays football, not a football player with a family. Plus he's almost 30. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull a ray lewis. and retire on top to be a family man and preacher.

Uh big negative here, and that is what most of the pundits regurgitate, but they didnt really tweaked the O, the only thing that changed there, and I am 100% serious on this, Wiz did not play!! Go back and review the season. they barely beat the Redskins, lose to the Chiefs, barely beat NYG, and then go on a roll. Why? What changed? They started working in Wiz with Pork Chop, and the finally Wiz full time. And when did they suck for a while? When Wiz was out with the ankle!! They are so much better with him in the lineup, then the other slugs they played at OG.
