A question and answer about Zain.

For those keeping track, this is week 26, and despite promises he tweeted, no response to Flo's article about Olympic reffing corruption from Foley.

You can access the Mailbag at THIS LINK.

No disrespect to Nick Roberts or any non-Foley individual ...

Regarding the drug problem back in Foley's school days ...

The drug problem doesn't need validation from wrestling's coaches, athletes or talking heads. Happy they have seen the drug problem first hand - they should see the drug problem first hand just like anyone else. Not newsworthy.

I like the pic of Perry and Delgado. Are they watching IMar's final match in St Louis? They look concerned.

Wrestlers are safer in Iran than Iowa.

Doubtful that's from the finals. There are coaches just behind them on another mat, yet there was only 1 mat set up for the finals.

lol, I had forgotten about his shirt. I almost wish you had allowed that memory to remain in the cobwebs.
My high school colors were orange and black, so I've seen and maybe worn my share of it ... and that shirt was too much.

Foley is going off the deep end "While the general population is always at risk for addiction to prescription medication, wrestlers can be particularly vulnerable to the epidemic since they are prone to long-held injuries (back, neck, knee), which tend to be prescribed opioid pain medications like OxyContin, Percocet, and which can lead to the abuse of stronger opioids like fentanyl."

WTH, is there a epidemic in the wrestling community I am not aware of? This is a tragedy but blaming wrestling or insinuating that wrestlers are weak minded, I just dont get it.

There were a couple dozen wrestlers this year in the 149 pound weight class that needed heavy dosages of pain killers....

Yet again Google doesn't work at Casa de Foley.

I asked him about it on Twitter, he admitted that Mendes was an elite NCAA wrestler, but that since he took the fight on 2 weeks notice, it doesn't count.

This might actually be even more ignorant than what he wrote.

I'd so like to believe that he was kidding you, but I just can't find any reason to believe that.

What a great platform he has, and what a shame how much he misuses it.

He seemed pretty serious about it, I'd be stunned if he was just joking with me.

I think Foley is a douchebag, but I can agree with his comment here

Wrestling is such a grueling sport and kids often try to wrestle hurt or injured.

Painkiller addiction has little to do with being "weak minded", and primarily the issue is with the highly-addictive chemistry of the drugs themselves.

Football is another sport where athletes are vulnerable. The last few years, Akron had two starters including their starting QB become addicted to opiate-based painkillers and ended up losing their lives.

PSU & NFL fullback Jon Witman almost committed suicide a few years ago due to painkiller addiction and mental / financial distress.

I'm sure someone can make a list of several dozens of football players, wrestlers, boxers, hockey players. Etc.

These drugs cause nightmares. And they're highly addictive.

Agree with Diggerpup. Foley probably meant relative to the general population, not relative to other high level athletes.

One other related issue with high level athletes is thinking there's no crossover with other addicting substances -- I took this for my job, won't impact what I do socially. Brett Favre doing rehab for painkiller addiction and then still thinking he could drink beer with no consequences. Etc.

LOL at this comment:

Staller Hall!! Similar to Nashon Garret stalling to victory over Cory Clark in 2016. Eliminate stall warning and call stalling when obvious to18K fans watching wrestler protect a lead by half shoots and sprawls.

Not sure I get the opioid - wrestling relationship. Here's who it affects;

Men and women
Rural and urban living
All races
Athletes and non-athletes
All income levels
and on, and on, and on, and on....

speaking of which, did anybody run into Togs at NCAAs? If so, what was his latest excuse for not living up to his end of the bet?
Wouldn't know him if I tripped over him...he hasn't posted on "34 and On-hold" since March 18...hope he's ok.

"34 and On-hold", that's funny! Togs made a guest appearance for some wisecracks on HR yesterday so having only 8 scoring wrestlers for OSU didn't send him too far over the edge.

I honestly get more out of the "stimulating" conversations I have with the old farts at the Waffle House than from anything Foley writes about.

That was the point I attempted to make (poorly), it is a problem that goes far beyond wrestling.

We needed NINE! With Collica's concussion, we were lucky not to drop to 4th.
That's quite an accusation. A concussion that affects a wrestler as you suggest is a concussion that should keep a wrestler off the mat. Concussions are brain injuries, not to be taken lightly.

Roar, he was cleared mid week after no activity from the conference tournament until then. Rumor is that was why the hard cut, and consequent lack of gas. While a rumor, it is from a very reliable source.
