For those keeping track, this is week 51, and despite promises he tweeted, no response to Flo's article about Olympic reffing corruption from Foley.

You can access this week's Mailbag at THIS LINK.

A few highlights this time:

1. Foley with an illegal fist to Jammen's back:

Q: What percent chance do you give the Gophers of winning the NCAA team title? They seem pretty strong in the lower weight classes.
-- @tommyselenski

Foley: 0.1 percent chance.

2. Foley picked McKenna to finish top 3, and picked Suriano to finish lower than McKenna.

3. Built-in joke obvious to everyone except Foley:

Q: Do you think Iran will be at the 2018 World Cup in Iowa City?
-- @Stealy_Phil

Foley: (Serious answer.)

Everyone else: No, they're safer at home than in Iowa.

4. Mike C. makes an (cough cough) unexpected appearance.

Tom,
Get Mike C. to submit a question about the Olympic officials thing -- or submit a question.

Tim told me he'd addressed it, but since you're waiting for a response in his venue, why not ask it there (again, if you'd already done so).

Just my two cents.

Any plans to acknowledge, next week, the one year passing of Foley's promise?

Yes and first on the itinerary is the flag ceremony, were we will all STAND for the national anthem.

After that we will have a fashion show titled fight shorts in the modern age.

Then we will have a face mushing contest to be judged by guest judges ZPain & Thomas Gilman.

Then well have the director of the netflix original Icarus on stage to talk about his film and the death threats he is getting.

If we have time near the end Tim will say a few words on the referee scandle. Again if we have time.

I really don't know what to do. In my rather persistent manner, I've tried to at least draw attention to the lack, IMHO, of any real answer to Flo's article by Foley.

Jason Byrant, who knows Foley and talks to him from time to time, reports above in this thread that Foley "told me [him] he'd addressed it." I certainly have read every single Mailbag since Flo's report, and since Foley promised to address it, and I've never seen anything from Foley that I think was even an attempt to address the charges.

Quite a few folks from this board have submitted comments on the Mailbag that call Foley on the carpet about not living up to his promise, and addressing Flo's article. It's been my observation that Foley responds to a lot of comments, but that he NEVER responds to any comments about him not living up to his promise.

There's also the question as to whether what Flo reported was a legitimate issue or not. I've heard from those that know that ref assignments are never random at Worlds, so Flo's bar/expectation was not valid. (To clarify, I think most would say that assignments should be random. That certainly is how reffing assignments are done at tournaments, including championships, in the US. However, if that is not how UWW handles assignments, then Flo's charge would seem logical, but would not necessarily be applicable to UWW championships.) If that's the case, then Foley could present that perspective, and explain why it is. Alas, he certainly has not done so in the Mailbag.

I can't speak to what Foley may have done on Twitter. The only time I check his Twitter is if there are rumbling about some crazy thing he tweeted.

So that's a long-winded reply to basically state I haven't a clue what I'll do on the 1-year anniversary, and to also address the broader complexities of the situation.

Thanks, Tom. Not long-winded at all. I think you are actually, rather succinctly, sharing your frustration with Foley’s nonsense. He cemented that when he stated that college athletes are “forced-labor.”

I agree that he’s never addressed the question.

A fitting tribute to Foley's efforts would be to do nothing at all.

IDK, I think Tom needs to sit down and sort out his plan via a 2-hr analysis. He is very good.
