Any others as well.

1. Looking for references relating to Joe Paterno and the Board of Trustees not getting along.
2. How many BOT from 2012 are no longer on the board today?
3. Is there proof that “Coach” in Curley’s email is referencing Joe Paterno? I thought I read there was.

If you don’t want to clutter up the message board with your answers, feel free to email me at nbeck@lambersonpackaging.com

Thanks again for all of your help. He has read the original thread and looked at many of the references. His conclusion is that for an 8-10 page paper, he has plenty of resources.

On #1 I think the Surma connection is about all you'll find in print. Joe was a moneymaker, was paid less than virtually all his peers, and selflessly gave to the university. There was a moment in ~2003 where the team had a swoon, and the AD & president Spanier talked w/ him about transition planning, but I doubt you'd find evidence that the BoT directed that.

There were skirmishes regarding discipline actions for players (Vicky - not BoT); Joe basically won, and she was gone.

I'd have a hard time imaging that there was ever any public statement of the BoT against Joe; nor he vs. them, until the last day or so of his tenure.

MMQ claimed somewhere that Joe once told him "Old Main screwed it up" -- apparently in reference to Sandusky. Don't know where that's on the record, but even if it is, it doesn't point to the BoT specifically.

Ultimately, to make a case that the BoT had it out for Joe comes down to Surma, and the rest being weak & scared babies. I am not certain but I don't think Surma was even Chairman at the time, but the rest were just cowering.

This also explains why hardly any remain now.

Only three trustees from November 2011 are still on the board:

Mark Dambly (2020, B&I) - Current Chairman
Ira Lubert (2019, B&I) - Former Chairman, preceding Dambly
Keith Masser (2020, Ag) - Former Chairman, preceding Lubert

From Curley's testimony at Spanier's trial, p.349-350:

Q. Okay. So let's start from the bottom, that part of that email that says 2:21 p.m. on 5-13-98, Tim Curley wrote. Can you see that part?
A. Yes, sir.

ATTORNEY SCHULTE: Can you highlight that for us? Thank you.

BY ATTORNEY SCHULTE:

Q. And what is it that you wrote there, just for the purposes of the record?
A. "Anything new in this department? Coach is anxious to know where it stands."

Q. And what was it that you were referring to?
A. I was referring back to the previous email about -- that started the 1998 situation.

Q. The incident in the shower from 1998?
A. That's correct.

Q. Okay. And again, is the coach you're referring to Coach Paterno?
A. That's correct.

Q. Okay. And this email -- if you could zoom out -- this email was -- you were writing to Gary Schultz; correct?
A. That's correct.

Q. Okay. You didn't have any conversations with the police chief about this, did you, during the course of this?
A. I did not.

Q. All the information that you were getting was from Gary Schultz?

A. That's correct.
