Here's a reader review from the UK of my second historical novel, Viking Warlord: A Saga of Thorkell the Great.

‘A thoughtful blend of fact and fiction.’

David K Mullaly deliberately takes a different path with his novel to that of many contemporary authors. He seeks to write an honest, rather than ‘glorified’ account of Thorkell the Great. Right from the dedication page onwards, it is obvious that this book comes from a different perspective.

It is clear that the author’s research was meticulous, and he displays a fair-minded approach to both Anglo Saxons and Norsemen.

That said, this is a novel first and foremost, and is hugely entertaining. I read it in one sitting, and was gripped from the outset. The way the author blends known facts about the protagonist, with his informed imagining of how Thorkell’s mind might work, weaves a spell around the reader and draws them in. Rather than a just a focus on vain battleglory, the story looks at human relationships, rifts, and the legacy we leave to our children.

If you love Bernard Cornwell, you will like this deeper study of a Norseman.

If you're interested, it's $11.99 for a paperback and $2.99 for an ebook on Amazon.

If anybody's interested in getting a print-quality jpg of the image I used for the cover of this novel--I actually had a print made and it's hanging on my office wall--send me a PM with your email and I'll send it to you. It's a great picture of a Viking invasion fleet emerging from the fog near land. I haven't seen a similar image anywhere.

If you have a very low quality high priced low resolution version made by Gambit Enterprises I may be interested.

Thank you for the plug LDN. You clearly are a man of discernment and wealth. Only the wealthiest of the wealthy even consider Gambit products. They realize most people will pay more for high quality, but only the wealthiest can afford to pay more for low quality. If you are ever in the Hamptons look me up and I will let you buy me a bottle of Dom Perignon 1921. :)
