I’ve been really excited for this season to start. We have so much talent and speed on this team. I’ve had season tix for 41 years-this is the fastest team I’ve seen in all those years. (I didn’t say the best).
The Defense has me really pumped. It could/should be the best D we have had in some time. The LBs, the CBs, the DEs - all should be GREAT. I’m now optimistic re the DTs and Safeties. The ST will be become a strength this year - I really like what I see if the new hire. Experience should also help here w the PKing.
The Offense - the WR’s are young but extremely talented - and I believe James has brought in the right coach to lead them. The TE’s should be among the best nation’s best. The RB’s are young but talented and also well coached - they will continue the tradition. I am very high on Sean Clifford. I love his confidence - what little we have seen of him, he seems to see the field well and throws on time to the right receiver. The middle of the OL will be a strength - we have 4 strong, experienced, quality lineman in Menet, Gonzo, Miranda, and Thorpe.
So where am I less confident? Today I watched a replay of last years Iowa game and the Bowl game. The play calling cut me down a few notches - brought me back to earth. I understand it was Rahne’s rookie season and he deserves the opportunity to grow. I am hopeful and optimistic that he will learn and improve from his first years experience. But I would be lying if I didn’t say it Is a concern. The other concern is Offensive tackle. We will have a very talented RS freshman at LT - very talented but still a rookie. At the RT position, Fries did not have a great year in 2018. We have unproven and youth behind them. Let’s hope the early schedule helps This group gel. But yes, OT is a concern.
So for me 2018 comes down to game planning, play calling, the 2 OT positions.
My 2 cents.
