Former b ball player

Yea thats pretty strange.
I think there was a tOSU player that went that route--Rickey Dudley--though he did end up playing football at tOSU for two seasons. He came as a basketball recruit however and did not play football until after his junior basketball season.

It happens every now and again--like Vince Papale.

Antonio Gates is the first one who came to mind.

I just looked up the stats and Travis had 2 catches for 26 yds. He also fumbled but didn't lose the fumble.

I think David Macklin may have played both - DB and G on BB. May have wrong name but recall a guy from that time doing both.

I think when we were on sanctions both Travis and Hogan could not play FB under their BB and Lacrosse scholarships. I think it had to go against our FB count. Too bad as both would have been nice adds. Glad to see life working out for two guys with PSU degrees.

Wrong in both cases. Hogan was long gone from Penn State when the sanctions came. Travis' decision to not play football at PSU had nothing to do with sanctions.

So you are saying Hogan graduated before 2012? Has he been in NFL for several years?

I don't think I suggested anything re Travis' decision to play CFB was related to sanctions. I think I said if he had played FB, he could not have used his BB scholarship, so would have counted against our reduced FB limit. So you are saying that is not correct?

According to his bio Hogan graduated from Penn State in 2010.
and yea he kicked around with the 49's, Giants and Dolphins before making it with the Pats.

Penn State
Hogan chose to attend Penn State on scholarship to help build a rising Nittany Lions men's lacrosse program. He started all 13 games a freshman in 2007, scoring 11 goals, but appeared in just three games as a sophomore because of a high ankle sprain. In 2009, Hogan had 29 goals on 133 shots and was named first-team All-ECAC as well as voted captain for his senior season.[4] He graduated in 2010 with one year of college sports eligibility remaining.

Monmouth
Taking advantage of the year of college eligibility remaining after his 2008 ankle injury, Hogan chose to enroll at Monmouth University in New Jersey to play football for its Hawks. He immediately secured a spot as a receiver, and also also played at cornerback due to injuries in the secondary, and on all special teams units. He finished his one-year college football career with 12 receptions for 147 yards and three touchdowns on offense, and 28 tackles and three interceptions on defense.[4]<<

There have been several guys who have done both here at PSU. Macklin was one of them along with teammate Titcus Pettigrew. Others included Sam Crenshaw, Christian Appleman, and Jordan Norwood. None of them played all that much (Macklin played in 15 games the one year that he played). If you go back far enough, you'll also find Jesse Arnelle who was an All-American in both and was drafted by both the NFL (Rams) and the NBA (Pistons). He turned down the Rams but did play one year with the Detroit before serving in the military and then going to law school.
