I'm sure that part of it is that comparing any broadcast to ESPN is kinda like comparing democracies to the Khmer Rouge......

That said, I think I had the volume on for the broadcast last night more than for every PSU-ESPN game over the last several years, combined.......and found thatvthey added, rather than detracted, from the game

It was refreshing to hear two guys actually talking about the game - - - instead of yapping incessantly about their dipshit, half-assed opinions and "philosophies"

And I thought both showed equal enthusiasm for both teams...that was a change for sure.

As I stated, GJ is an excellent football announcer (and the best there is for basketball). That tandem is very well balanced.

Glad you enjoyed your "boogar flavored ice-cream".

Although near the very end of the game they had to throw in the obligatory "sexual assault" reference.

Love Gus Johnson, but the problem with Fox's announcing stable is depth. Not that ESPN is great, bur for games that aren't featured Fox announcers are painful to listen to.

This. The other games were beyond painful.

I usually don't have the sound on during games, so I'll take your word for it......but judging by the caliber of crews that get ESPN gigs, I can only inagine what the FOX back-ups and scout teams must be like :)

Fox is a thousand times better than ESPN. I thought coverage was great and Gus Johnson is perfect. Love that guy.

I wasn't surprised it was better than ESPN.......but I was (pleasantly) surprised at HOW MUCH better it was

Fox's coverage is pretty much a throwback to what ESPN was before it turned into a circus

I love listening to Gus Johnson. He just about loses it on every big play which is awesome...especially when your team has a ton of big plays during the game. I enjoyed the coverage when I watched it this morning. My preference is for the announcers to just shut up sometimes and watch/listen to the game. Rather than somebody like Herbie or Jesse Palmer constantly talking just to fill air time. Uncomfortable silence is OK...just ask Coach Franklin.

Listened to Jones and Ham during the game last night, but watching the replay on BTN today I enjoyed Johnson. Gotta love the enthusiasm. I think my favorite moment was his call on Barkley's td that tied it up.

"Touchdown Nittany Lions" and then he added an "uh oh" at the end of it.

Is Johnson the one who referenced Camelot as time expired? That guy is batshit insane, but in a way that is totally awesome.

Gus was terrific; seems like he and CJF would be great pals. Two of a kind for their enthusiasm and love of what they do.

Was at the game, so I didn't get to hear coverage until last night. Gus did a nice job. Love his hoops coverage as well...nothing like Gus and Raftery covering Big East (the other one) basketball!

I agree. I'm not a Gus Johnson fan and I could have done without his "editorializing" at the end of the game but I really liked
Joe Klatt and thought he was excellent.
I can also go the rest of my life without ever seeing Whanny, his 10 pounds of caked on makeup and his inability to understand what a mic is for, and his not so subtle agendas again.

Read the game thread on Badger Nation - they hated the announcing team.

Talk about an enjoyable thread to read knowing the outcome. Haha

Nice secondary play (giggle)

From a production standpoint, Fox appeared to be on quaaludes when it came to TV timeouts. Their "live" coverage missed at least one Penn State touchdown and several other after-the-break snaps. Not quite on the level of the infamous "Heidi" calamity, but an odd occurrence in this day and age.

Interesting theme I'm reading here from others who watched was the amout of commercials. We were @ the game and I said to my son and others seated nearby that there seemed to be alot of "RED HAT" (TV) extended timeouts. Almost NFLesque. In person, venue was fabulous and PSU attendees were loud & proud entire game. Sat in upper deck @ 40 on PSU side (great seats) and even had TV screens 32" above our heads to watch replays. Really liked our seats, beautiful and comfortable venue.
