Who do you rate as the greatest player of all time on the following franchises:

1. Sixers?

2. Celtics?

3. Knicks?

4. Lakers?

I'm talking in terms of what the guy did while a member of that franchise. My picks are, in order, Moses Malone, Bill Russell (narrowly over Bird), Bill Bradley (not sure about this one; no one stands out to me), and Jerry West (Magic was better, but Jerry did it longer).

The Knicks are the one that causes me the greatest debate. I could make a case for any of the following as their best player:

Clyde Frazier
Patrick Ewing
Willis Reed
Earl Monroe

You might even include Bernard King and Dave DeBusschere in the conversation.

1. Wilt (next Dr. J)
2. Russell (Bird)
3. Willis Reed (Ewing -- no offense but Bradley isn't in the top five or so)
4. Magic (Jabbar)

Dr J (spent twice as much time in Philly as Wilt)
Russell
Willis Reed (there for both championships, inspiring the first on one leg)
Kareem

Dave DeBusschere was a bad man. There are people who can drink beer and people who can REALLY drink beer. He could REALLY drink beer. Was not uncommon for him to have a six pack at halftime.

And don't even start about his consumption playing golf.

Magic and West each played 13 seasons. West played 932 games while Magic played 906. That difference doesn't matter.

1. Wilt
2. Bill Russell
3. Walt Frazier
4. Magic Johnson

1. Dr. J/ Wilt.
2. Bird/ Russel
3. Ewing/ Reed
4. Kareem/ West

I'll take the first listed for each team but I think you could make a valid argument for either player.

He was a great shooter and would have been much more valuable a player with a three-point line. He was also the best defensive forward of his time.
Yes. Dave liked to mix in up underneath, defended, rebounded and could shoot it and was tough as nails. He was Havlicek-ish but a little taller and thicker. Hondo could play guard and forward and ran the floor better (Hondo had a tryout with the Browns as a split end). West said his two toughest defenders were Havlicek and Frazier.

Life long Lakers fan says:

Center:
1) Kareem
2) Wilt
3) Shaq

Guard:
1) Magic
2) Kobe
3) West

Forward:
1) Baylor
2) Worthy
3) Wilkes

Jim, a couple players from our day of similar ilk were Jerry Lucas and Bill Bridges, both fierce forwards of that time. The all time single game rebound records is basically a Wilt V Russell matchup but Lucas once had 40 rebounds in a game to get on that list. Bridges is one of 4 NBA players to have more than 35 boards in a single playoff game. The others Wilt, Russell naturally and Willis Reed.

Bridges was a walk on at KU to boot.
