I’m staying in California, driving past countless dairy cows and farmland between Bakersfield and Fresno. Fresno State returns for its 2nd season since purgatory. Troy Steiner is continuing to do a good job building this program back.

125 – Garcia (Fr) <Selma, CA>

Robert Garcia IV went 10-4 during his redshirt season. He was a 4-time CIF State medalist (runner-up to Mejia @126 his senior season). He’s taking over for Sean Williams who went 9-19 last season.

133 – Mejia (Fr) <Clovis, CA> or Joint (Fr) <Lemoore, CA>

Justin Mejia returns to California. Mejia was the 2nd ever 4-time CIF State wrestling champion. Gary Joint went 8-3 during his redshirt season. He was the CIF State champion @132 his senior season in 2017. Trevor Williams (So) was the starter last season going 6-24.

141 – Deloza (So) <Clovis North, CA> or Saenz (Fr) <Vacaville, CA>

Chris Deloza was the starter last season going 8-24. Incoming freshman Lawrence Saenz finished 2nd @138 in the CIF State championship in 2018 and 4th in 2017.

149 – Olivas (Jr) <Clovis, CA>

Khrisitian Olivas was one of two qualifiers for Fresno State last season getting their only points in the tournament. He went 26-7 overall and 1-2 in the tournament.

157 – Gaxiola (So) <Clovis, CA>

Greg Gaxiola went 13-18 last season. He had one win against a NCAA qualifier, Casey Sparkman (Kent St).

165 – Hokit (Jr) <Clovis, CA> or Martino (Fr) <Clovis, CA>

Isaiah Hokit went 15-14 last season and didn’t qualify for the tournament. Brandon Martino went 12-5 his redshirt season @174.

174 – Kincaid (So) <Clovis, CA> or Martino (Fr) <Clovis, CA>

Dominic Kincaid went 11-22 as the starter last season.

184 – Brandt (Liberty Madera Ranchos, CA> or Solis (Fr) <Lemoore, CA> or Salis (Fr) <St. John Bosco, CA>

Richie Brandt began last season as the starter @197 and moved down and finished the year as the starter @184 with an 8-16 overall record. Angel Solis began last season as the starter @184 and went 7-17 overall. Danny Salis went 5-4 @197 in his redshirt season.

197 – Hokit (Jr) <Clovis, CA>

Josh Hokit finished last season as the starter going 9-8 overall.

Heavy – Nevills (So) <Clovis, CA>

AJ Nevills was one of two Fresno State qualifiers last season. He went 26-10 overall and 0-2 in the tournament. AJ was the CIF State champion @195 in 2016 and finished 2nd to Zahid Valencia @182 in 2015.

Fresno State is a young team that will continue to develop under Steiner. And they are starting to get recruits outside of Clovis like Nick Casperson from Beresford, South Dakota and Hunter Cruz from Moses Lake, WA. (If you didn’t already know, Clovis is a suburb of Fresno.)

There is also a familiar family in Clovis that owns a lot of French Bulldogs!
