The following just came out. It's one of the couple of notes Casey publishes each season. But first, a little trivia for all...the Palestra, opened in January, 1927, and Rec Hall, opened in January, 1929, have the same architect, Charles Klauder. For those of you that attended Main Campus, he also was instrumental as the architect of Old Main, Pattee Library, and a dozen or so other buildings on campus.

Penn State Wrestling Fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has been a good couple of weeks since my last update and now we are into the Thanksgiving break for a few days. Two weekends ago we opened up the season with a solid showing against Army on Friday and then again on Sunday against Stanford. It was an honor to be able to compete at a very prestigious university like West Point and particularly on Veterans Day. We respect and are very grateful for our military and for the freedom that it allows us in the United States. There are men and women around the world fighting for our freedom and when you put that into perspective of a wrestling match it allows you to see how fortunate these guys really are. We obviously want to win on the wrestling mat but it is nothing compared to what others are doing for us around the world.

We were able to come back home for the first time of the year from West Point in yet another awesome sellout crowd for a very tough Stanford team. Our team fought hard and scored a lot of points. Not everybody got their hand raised but there were a lot of lessons learned in our losses and that allows our guys to get better. Like Coach Cael says we do not need to lose to learn lessons but there were some lessons learned.

This past Sunday we were able to compete in our first tournament of the year in Philly with a ton of Penn State Faithful in the stands so that made for a very nice event for our guys. There arena had the same architect as Rec Hall so there were a lot of similarities and when you throw in the fan support we had it made it feel a little like home. Nothing is as cool as Rec Hall but it was a pretty cool venue. Again the guys wrestled hard, scored a lot of points, made some mistakes, and had fun while doing it. That is a successful weekend when you have that combination because it means guys are wrestling aggressively and are not scared to let it fly.

Our guys are now off for a couple days and then we are back at it this weekend getting ready for our match next weekend against a tough Lehigh team in the Bryce Jordan Center. There are still tickets available for that match and they put on a very good show at the Bryce Jordan so let’s fill that arena up.
