My wife and I were walking home last night from seeing Captain marvel when we met new neighbors just a few doors down. The husband told us how he’s been consulting for college football teams and I asked if he was a coach. Turns out the husband is Gary Darnell. You might not know that name right off the back. But if you attended the 2007 Alamo Bowl against Texas A&M he was the interim head coach for that game. So apparently before the game there was a coaches and staff dinner. Gary told me the head coaches were asked to make remarks at the dinner. He went first and thanked the bowl for inviting them, all the typical stuff a coach would say. Then he turns to Joe and says Joe you are such an icon, I’m so honored to be here and coaching in a game with you. You do things the right way and we all respect you for this. But I’m sorry Joe we’re going to kick your ass.
Joe gets up for his remarks. He bends over and says to Gary something along the lines of “what are you waiting for, better get it in now. “
As you know Penn State went on to beat A&M in that game.
He had nothing but great things to say about Joe.
