FUNNY: Two years ago people here were calling for Coach Franklins head....

HE BARELY EVEN BEAT ANY TOP 25 TEAMS AT VANDERBILT
Key phrase in your shout - "AT VANDERBILT." You do realize that he took over a program with little football tradition, an SEC doormat at the bottom of the barrel with respect to talent, and:

1. Was 24-15 overall in those 3 years
2. Vanderbilt finished with 9 wins in consecutive years for the first time in school history
3. Vanderbilt was ranked in the top 25 of AP and Coaches polls in back-to-back years for the first time ever

I’m sorry but the overwhelming majority of PSU fans supported him and knew what he was up against. Jones was pushing that narrative and there were a small handful of whiners on this board.

Who was the regular here that said we made a mistake and should have hired Munchak? Drunk somebody, IIRC.
I also was one who wanted Munchak, but it had nothing to do with Franklin. Our OL was deplorable under O'Brien and Munchak I felt would certainly fix that. Now, I realize the error of my thinking. No way Mike would have recruited like James, nor would we have had the dynamic offense we do now. Now defense... well, that's still up in the air. But, I think he's working on it.

Well, at you can admit it and there is honor in that. Those folks most critical of Franklin won't be that honest and will simply go quiet until they can find something else to be critical of. Those are the folks who say they love Penn State football, but really don't. And regardless of how much success we have there is always a "but". I'm behind anyone who leads this program, fights like heck to win, and can maintain the depth of culture that is Penn State.

Here's the thing. One of my neighbors stopped me on the path yesterday where I was doing my morning run and wanted to talk football, specifically about tonight's game. He's a Georgia fan here in Atlanta, but even this game has captured his imagination. He was so excited that Penn State could win this game, and expressed his amazement that was even possible given OSU's recruiting history and the fact we're still playing catch up. He said "Franklin and his staff must really know how to evaluate talent". So an outsider can see it, but we're still hedging our bets? Keep recruiting Franklin! Whether we win this game or not this train is moving forward.

In addition to what you said, I thought Munchak would provide the foundation for a young and upcoming coach to walk into. That is, we hire Munchak after O'Brien, he coaches 5, maybe 6 years, solidifies our trenches and recruits "success with honor" kids and passes the torch to a young upstart.

It's worked out with Franklin. My beef was he never stayed at one job very long and seemed to speak like a politician (telling people what they wanted to hear).

Munchak, albeit not a great coach, had an impeccable resume and was trustworthy. There was NO question about that.

Up until the Minnesota game I was concerned that Franklin was "all talk". His coaching on the sideline seemed inconsistent and I was worried that he had lost the team with Hack's issues and the coaching changes. On the other hand I thought that Penn State could be fortunate to be a middle of the road team moving forward. Michigan State had taken our place in the top 3 in the division aling with Michigan and Ohio State. So perhaps let Franklin stay because at least we are decent under him.

I respected his loyalty to Hack even though I know that was not the system or type of QB he wanted and we all see that now - I giv him props for this - it was a stand up thing to do and I think under appreciated by many.

Sorry to get you going, that was the joke! People made me so mad back then talking up his losses to top 25 teams while ignoring the fact that Vandy lost to EVERYONE before he got there.

While people criticized Franklin with cherry-picked stats, Vandy fans were begrudgingly admitting that he coached two of the best three seasons IN SCHOOL HISTORY:

Anyway, it was an emotional time and I don't hold any grudges towards people upset about the state of the program. Obsessive weirdos like me comprehended the long-term war and could see why Franklin was the perfect guy. More casual fans were understandably frustrated watching a mediocre team losing to the likes of Temple.

It scares me to think of where this program might be if 2016 didn't turn out to be such a magical season. It all feels like obvious destiny now, but there were many lucky breaks that year which earned Franklin the credibility and momentum we're all enjoying now. Regardless of what happens tonight we are very fortunate to have Franklin running this show.

Have to say I knew he was the right guy from the start and literally expected ya to be here.

My arm is sore from patting myself on the back now !!

But the “hot seat” BS really pissed me off because it was just that - BS

Worse yet it reminded me of my old political days - I knew people were trying to create the image of the hot seat because they were literally afraid of the alternative

Turns out they were right to be afraid
