For those who don't want to read the entire document:

Revenue from Tuition and Fees (this is in Schedule III of the linked PSU Budget... they don't list Page numbers, but it I believe it is the 34th page of the document):

Tuition and Fees 2017/18: $1,865,177,000

Tution and Fees 2018/19: $1,983,190,000

Change: +$118,073,000 (6.3% increase)

Of that $118,013,000 increase (all from the footnotes to Schedule III ... they don't list Page numbers, but it I believe it is the 38th page of the document ):

$5,225,000 from increases in Enrollment (more students)…. accounting for 0.3% of the 6.3% increase
$1,000,000 from increased Summer income
$1,123,000 from increases to Student Fees (PSU doesn't break out the Total for these Student Fees (just the annual increase), but last time I poured through the various statements, it amounted to roughly $100,000,000 - most of this goes to Capital projects. Why does it go to Capital Projects? LOL, I think we know.)
$1,000,000 from increase to International Tuition and Fee Swap
$30,075,000 from 2017-18 Tuition Rate changes
$79,590,000 from 2018-2019 Tuition Rate increases

Its all there - in black and white, in the PSU Budget - for anyone who wants to look at it.
And even a Junior High level education can understand that.

Some of the "why"s?… may require a bit more analysis, and I ain't gonna' lay it all out here... but the one glaring item that falls out from the numbers is a very significant planned increase in the % of OOS enrollment (PSU surely ain't gonna' want to talk about that, but that's the only way the numbers add up)
Some of the "what are the implications"s?..... I won't waste my breath (Those folks who are interested already understand them. Those who don't, never will)

Stupid question. If revenue from tuition and fees increases by $118,073,000, how does that money get spent? That is a boatload of cash. If I'm looking at the numbers correctly, it's about half of what the state appropriation is for general support.

One item would be robust 5 year capital plan.

That would require one to actually go through and analyze the financial statements.

Aside from myself, I’m not sure who ever does that (obviously some PSU Admins do..... but I have never seen any evidence that any of the folks charged with Governance over that budget - ie, the Trustees - have ever done so. And no one seems to really care that they don't. "Can they still get chocolate milk?")

I could tell ya’ where it goes ....... but I’ve already done that so many times (not to “you” specifically, of course) ..... and catalyzed not much more than idiocy and grief .... that I’m not likely to do it again :) ..... aside from saying most of it surely is not spent on furthering the University missions of Education and Research.

I always like your input and I’d want you on my team looking out for mutual interests. We need guys like you.
