Football GAMEDAY THREAD: Penn State Football opens season vs. Purdue

A few thoughts on the first half:
  • Clifford playing well.
  • Have to love the freshman running backs. This is the legacy of Saquon Barkley -- attracting great running backs to the program who want to follow in his footsteps.
  • Unfortunately, the running offense suffers from the same thing that held back Barkley's stats. I agree with Klatt's comments. These guys should be running down hill, not starting flat-footed with a delay. Lee is not as quick and should be a goal line RB at most.
  • Defensively, there are glaring holes in our pass defense. I don't know what it is with Terry Smith, but why do we have great athletic corners who feel compelled to grab the receiver? Seems like this hasn't changed from last year. Porter is hurting his draft stock.

You have to wonder what Purdue defense was thinking with seconds left and psu on their own side of the field

P

Of course they do. Do they miss targeting calls on possible loose balls(wasn’t close!) when 2 officials at least should be looking at the action. Absolutely not.
Why are people focusing on the loose ball? That has nothing to do with the call.

Of course it does. Do the offensive player and defensive player move there bodies to try and grab the ball
As long it was a forward pass he's considered defenseless. This isn't a "but this happened" situation which is one of the many reason the rule needs to be eliminated

Is this real life? That is exactly what happened. The player was defenseless and was struck helmet to helmet--it will be called that way EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Wasn’t helmet to helmet, but I’m done with you.

Agreed. When no one on the broadcast can agree with it it’s obvious a terrible call. Especially when it wasn’t called on the field.

Back to the game. Porter is getting penalties as usual.

They don't like the call because they don't like the rule as they said about a dozen times in a 3 minute span

We agree on Porter at least. Maybe it's coaching with him--too talented for this.

You keep arguing it--it was helmet to helmet which they confirmed on replay. You're just mad about it
Go look at it…it was shoulder to shoulder…come on, how can you not see that? Are you just trying to be a prick?

This is a thoroughly average team. Lack physicality, can't tackle, etc. Veilleux should be in, shoulda actually started but whatever.

Lber play across the board is bad. Sutherland on that TD was nowhere to be seen

D overall needs to be better. No real pressure. Soft coverage. Letting them run some. Really have to tighten up
