Hoffman's better off at 197 or Heavy, Tan Tom got that kid cutting some serious weight. He was 197-220 in High School. Of course he has to wait on Moore to Graduate, he's just not the same guy at 184lbs
I agree, I think 197 is his weight but I can't blame the kid for trying to get in the lineup at HWT...I wish him well. I always liked him from his days at Montoursville.
Chase Singletary plans on going 197 next year. Thus Hoffman may need to bulk up and go 285 to get into the lineup.

Hoffman has a good upside, he's still young, but has to evolve...that includes moving up a weight class. Maybe the portal is his best option at this point. Hoping he reaches his full potential.
Hoffman wrestled a few matches here and there at 220 and HWT in high school, but he was primarily a 195 for his last 3 years after going 170 as a FR. The initial move all the way to 195 was because Garrett was at 182. Gavin won states essentially up a weight, so why bother going back down?
He did go 220 for an offseason event (can't remember which one), made it to the finals but got crushed by Cohlton Schultz and afterward said he didn't like being at 220, felt sluggish there.
Later he made the world team at the freestyle equivalent of 184 lb.
So no, he never was a 220 for more than a weekend.

It does have an eerie Haines feel to it. Hard luck in a fluid system.

But, I think the Steelwood Radio podcasters recently re-confirmed that Chase still plans on going 197.
Most likely the same issues that Gavin is having at Ohio State he would be having at PSU. There is a reason whey Cael went after Beard, he was right about Nick Nevills instead of Haines too.
