This, coming right on the heels of Gen. McKenzie saying we can expect more casualties. Like no $hit! That's Biden's definition of "messy." Having troops/Marines doing a job they weren't trained to do. What we witness is courage on display. Too bad our leaders don't have it.
Anyway, this is what happens when you've a dogmatic president who's always wanted to get out of the Middle East at all cost. Take Bagram for example. It was part of Trump's conditions-based withdrawal. Specifically, it was to remain open as strategic checkmate against China and Iran. Naturally then, Biden wanted to close it. So Biden tells generals to reduce troops to 600. The generals pushback. Biden overrules them. So the generals abandon Bagram knowing it can't be defended by 600. It enables Biden to go on TV claiming he had "consensus" on Bagram. He did but he didn't. At the very least he has plausible deniability.
We've evacuated 83,000 Afghans and 4,500 Americans. That leaves an estimated 250,000 "at risk" Afghans and 1,500 Americans remaining. Isn't it ironic how when we invade a country it always ends up invading us.
More than anything else it's the arrogance that gets me. For example, ADM John Kirby was asked a question about the Kabul airport remaining open to air traffic. Kirby snaps back (I paraphrase) it remains open right now as there are ongoing flights. Yeah Kirby, those are Marine forward air controllers in a tent along the runway, acting as ATCs. When the troops withdraw they withdraw. So you didn't answer the question.
Thank you.

The destruction of the base was intended to ensure the Taliban would not gain access to any equipment or information left behind.
