and obviously this relates to the Rivers issue. Begin with this premise - obviously this is a staff of excellent recruiters and any suggestion to the contrary is absurd. To any who say "but they can't recruit LB", do you "recruit" LB different that other players? Do you not show them the library? Don't take them to a wrestling match? Obviously this is sarcasm as we would recruit LB the same way as any other position. Further, I don't think you can put this on Pry as we all know the entire staff is involved in recruiting these kids, more so than was the case with prior staffs.
My question - does this staff possibly place less value on LB due to the way the game has changed with an emphasis on speed and spread offenses? All teams use nickel and dime defenses extensively so it seems evident we probably need fewer LB on the roster than in the past. Further, it seems the LB we are recruiting are more speed/edge guys than true inside run-stuffing LB. For example, we have recruited Farmer, Bowen, Brown, Faison. None of these guys are pure inside LB.
If this is the case it would explain to some extent why we seem to be having trouble as we are recruiting fewer pure inside LB; when we whiff on a few, there are not a lot of plan B guys out there.
So, any x and o guys, is there anything to the notion of inside LB being a lower priority than it was even 4-5 years ago?
