Two Words:
Neutral. Grey. Facemask.
Love the white shoes and never understood why anyone would take issue. After all, white is one of our 2 colors, not black. I think it matches the uniforms much better.
I stated that same thing a couple of years ago when there was a discussion of throwback uniforms. Black shirt with pink numbers and black pants. I read somewhere that back in the time of the pink and black colors that quite a few schools sported pink in their color scheme, because they didn’t have colorfast fabrics. A red shirt or red numbers would turn pink after a washing or two, so sports teams just went with pink. It's a throwback. The slogan still stands with today's uniform. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing them do a pink and black jersey someday, but I would do it in October, when they could use it as a Breast Cancer Awareness month fundraiser.
SisterBlack cleats were all that were available until the late sixties. When white shoes became available, most major colleges changed to white. They allegedly made runners look faster. Only a few major schools did not change to white. I believe they were USC, Alabama. Norte Dame and Penn State.
About the same time names were being applied to the back of the jerseys. Again only a few schools did not change. They were basically the same schools.
PSU has held on to this tradition for fifty or more years.
Please feel free to correct my memory. My older brother does every holiday.
The reality is that the players love doing this. Isn’t this really about them anyway? I mean the whole CFB thing starts with the players. As long as the players are happy or OK with something then so am I. I’m just a fan.
haha math averseFor context: Pink & black were Penn State's colors from 1887 to 1890. So for the math averse, those colors accounted for 3 of our 164 year history.

Is it possible “ unlike” a Post? LOL!White shoes symbolize our 79 Sugar Bowl loss.
Someone answer s question-during the Paterno era I don’t recall any single digit number uniforms until after 1986.
Anyone know why?

Maths.Single-digit numbers didn’t exist before 1986. LionJim can explain it.

I miss the old guy.Looks like single-digit numbers started in 1984. Ray Roundtree wore #6, Matt Knizer #7, and others.
I don't know why, though. I don't recall any of the players I knew/know mentioning it. Maybe some players started to request them, and Joe relented?
Trivia: When he signed with PSU, Cefalo asked to be able to wear #44 and wear high white socks. Joe said ok to both. The 1974 equivalent of a Lawnboyz chain, I suppose....
Just the soles of their shoesAny word on if they are going to do the diamonds in the end zones?

Waiting for a throwback to the original black and pink uniforms.
