IMO, you want have to wait long to see at least Iowa and OSU push real hard.

Wow. If Cassar does not return, Penn State will not have a reigning national champion. I wonder when was the last year that happened.

Iowa will have one returning champion who would be the favorite to repeat. With Bo now gone, Kollin Moore will probably be a strong favorite to be the national champion at 197. The Lions will have a number of contenders but at this point I don't believe there will be a single strong favorite to win a national championship. Cassar, if he comes back, would be a strong contender.

Maybe they're not "favorites", but it wouldn't be terribly surprising to see any of these guys earn a place in the finals (in fact, it would be more surprising if at least a couple of them didn't), where anything can happen:

Lee @ 141
Joseph @ 165
Hall @ 174
Rasheed or Brooks @ 184
Conel or Beard @ 197
Cassar (if he returns) @ HWT (If Cassar doesn't return, there's a good chance Seth Nevills will AA.)

Add in RBY, and perhaps Berge and Verk in weight classes that open up next year (Nolf, Berger and Pants are gone @ 157; Ashnault and Jordan @ 149), and the odds for 9 AAs are reasonably good. That would be a helluva year.

Thanks, Roar! Ah yes, the first year of the recent streak. Matt Brown was the only champ the previous year, and he graduated.

By the way, it’s pretty cool that so many of the healthy PSU guys (who stayed all years) that we thought *could* win a title did eventually win a title. Nico, Matt Brown, Cassar, ... The only real miss was Morgan.

Edit: Nick Nevills might be considered a miss, but he was not healthy the previous two seasons, and this year he did not get an opportunity. And even Morgan never was at his natural weight. In short, Cael really, really helps kids realize their potential!

3,4,2 the last 3 years won every match not against bo. Who should u say if the favorite? He beat Conel the last 2 times they wrestled.
I agree wholeheartedly with your point, but to clarify: his only losses this year were to Bo. Last year he lost to Conel, Cassar, and Macchiavello. The year before, to Cox and Pfarr.

So his only career losses were to 4 NCAA champs, a runner-up, and a 3rd placer. What a stiff.

The only 2 wrestlers with remaining eligibility to have beaten him are (1) recovering from shoulder surgery and not yet approved for a 6th year, and (2) at HWT.

Of the other returning placers, he majored Brucki 2x, beat Darmstadt, beat Warner. Did not face Hokit.

Moore not being the clear favorite is fantasy.

At first glance, I wonder how he placed 4th with only one loss? Did he injury default or something?

Moore will be the clear favorite at the beginning of the season and remain so for a good portion of the season, by the end of the year it may be different. Who knows who emerges.

No, not sure how tylersmith thinks he beat everyone not named Bo since he lost to Conel twice at NCAAs last year.
I don’t think that I’m just a poor writer, my mind goes faster than my fingers. He went 3,4, and 2 and beat everyone not named bo this year. That wasn’t well written originally
