The year started with much promise but we have been down this road before in 2019 with Clifford. He will gut it out injured, the second half of the season is going to be ugly because of it. Franklin is either loyal to a fault with Clifford in these situations or has absolutely no confidence in Roberson. I feel it is a combination of both. So with 2021 now toast we look ahead. Will this collapse effect recruiting? Will Franklin leaving rumors persist? It just seems like right now so many things are out of control with this program and I am sure things will get more ugly the more they lose down the stretch.
So I am normally very optimistic, glass half full but I think right now the glass is totally empty. We are gonna finish 6-6 / 7-5 and goto a crap bowl after being top 4 in Mid October. After this miserable season ends Penn State will lose a ton of their top talent. So regardless of how 2021 went, 2022 was gonna be a tough one, especially with an early trip to Auburn.
My thoughts are, don’t set the program back another season by trying to scrap out a 8-4 season in 2022 with a transfer QB or seeing what we got in Roberson or CV. 2022 has to be about returning to national spotlight in 2023. I think they should be honest about it. A ton of playing time for incoming freshman. Especially QB, RB, WR. They all enroll early, put them on the fast track to playing time from day 1. First and second team reps all spring, summer and fall. I would rather watch our stud freshman form a bond and improve as the season goes on leading to some real excitement and anticipation for 2023 by the end of the year.
