kind of negates the Harbaugh connection to the NFL as a "recruiting" tool :) I do know that OB used his NFL background to aid his recruiting.
All in all Franklin seems to know what he is doing :)

I think this tells you that Franklin is realistic when it comes to the changing nature of college football and recruit motivations. Some players are thinking ahead to the NFL and the big money. Haslett provides a connection.

I just don't fully understand the impact Haslett can have if he is a consultant. How much access will he have to the team?

It is really interesting. I'm curious to know the exact reason he was brought on(other then the "official" announcement). Is it to truly bring a NFL perspective to the offense/defense? Does Franklin think PSU is lacking some schemes? Is it strictly a recruiting tool? is he potentially an assistant candidate in the future? Is it all the above? I really hope he is being brought in for schemes and stuff like that. This definitely bears watching to see what happens as the season progresses.

I'm admitting up front that I have no idea what Haslett’s role is. But I do have a few questions:

1. Is he a full-time employee?

2. Would he likely be tasked with looking at film of Penn State practices and/or games and advising the staff on player skills or what type of calls to make in specific situations?

3. Would he not be a valuable source for helping with all those 3rd-and-1 or 2 runs that preceded punts or those opposition completions down the middle to wide-open receivers?

Must admit that I am totally parked in James Franklin's lot. I like what he says, I like how he recruits, and I like his devotion to family ... I like almost everything I've seen or heard about him so far. I think he totally "gets it" football-wise, knowing what it will take to win in this era of college football. Yet he still shows due respect for what made Penn State the awesome program it has been.

If he thinks Haslett will somehow help us compete with the Big Ten's 2 Darlings and MSU, then I'm all for it.

CJF acts like a great leader should. Surround yourself with the best talent you can find, and listen to what they tell you so the entire team can get better! He's not afraid to bring in people who are more knowledgable then he is in areas he may need strengthening! It should also help recruiting know a former NFL head coach is around to help improve the team!
