Lots of buzz over on HR about Gross to the good guys being a done deal. With a couple of 6th years, Gross and grey shirts, we'll just keep the train a rolling.....

I have heard rumor that Bono is in hot water for contacting Gross, I have no clue if this is true or not.

I would love to see Gross at PSU, but I dont see him going any where other then Wisconsin.
so I forgot to ask-- if Bono did contact Gross-would that result in Gross not being allowed to transfer to Wisconsin????

Sounded like he did way more than that - hence, he’s in the NCAA infractions database for something. Rumors on other boards from SDSU folks center upon tampering and RTC-related transgressions. These posts are deleted quickly from TheMat
I hate to hear that--I was happy with the move to Wisconsin--this year in Rec Hall I witnessed a fired up Wisconsin team that we have not seen in some time. They wrestled hard for 7 min, the were aggressive and all seemed to have a gas tank!

Maybe Jammenz can fill us in on the hypothetical answer on why Gross would choose Penn State over apparent 2nd choice, Minnesota.

What NCAA infractions database?

This came up a few weeks ago, and what he was listed on ... the only clear thing about it was it being Not NCAA.

And posts being quickly deleted from The Mat ... that's a generally good idea regardless of topic.

"Lots of buz on HR" = one guy posts Bono getting fired + Gross to PSU, then a number of posters trash Cael.

Mothman, ManBearPig, and Nessie find this hard to believe.

Yeah, sorry, I keep botching that. It’s the SafeSport database. TheMat posts discuss the tampering and RTC stuff. Could definitely be sour grapes of course

I’m going to delete that post - though it’s captured in replies

HR had Kerk coming too. Long thread about what a POS Cael is for poaching and guys crying for the kids getting recruited over. Guys that witnessed Cael approaching committed kids, the usual. Some of them have the inside dirt until they're wrong then the next time something comes up they know the scoop again

Can you imagine the stories they’d have if, say, Q set up a very powerful wrestling club in Des Moines, say, and after a period of barren recruiting in Iowa for his alma mater, all of a sudden a bumper crop of Iowa kids - including a kid challenging for GOAT status in the state, went to Penn State. Said GOAT even had his family tear up stakes and settle down in Lock Haven let’s say.

What a wierd turn of events that would be. (The hypothetical assumes Iowa is the mother lode of talent, not Pa)

Oh, missing parts of the fact pattern:

Qs club colors are blue and white and the club takes an annual boondoggle to REC Hall.

this 100% will be super bummed if Bono is out... I like what he brings to the party...

Wonder if Ronna will be moving with him.. Wyoming Sem has a girls program now that she could most likely work out at

I posted here about 3 weeks ago that there was a rumor going around at EIWAs and it had nothing to do with tampering. The rumored transgression was probably a fireable/"I'm resigning for personal reasons" offense if an investigation discovered it to be credible. Honestly, I think the tampering angle is just people trying to put 2 and 2 together on the fly.

Enough people were taking about it at nationals that I've got to believe it's got legs. Again, not a tampering issue that's causing the hot water if the rumors are true.

What could be a fireable offense if not tampering with a potential transfer

Heard from someone who's opinion you value or read somewhere on a college wrestling message board? I ask because The Hawkeye Report might well be the best source of college wrestling bullshit on planet earth. This is a place where posters go totally unchecked accusing championship-level programs (read: Penn State, Ohio State) of outright cheating at every level. We're talking illegal payments, promises to pay, steroid use, illegal recruiting, you name it, all in the name of feeling good about their current standing as fourth-fiddle.

Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez supports both wrestling and Chris Bono. He even gave Bono a handsom raise to $250k last spring, which is great! That said, if things were as bad as the Iowa message board makes it sound, this bs "scandal" would already be in the public domain in today's "#MeToo" era.

I am looking forward to watching Chris Bono and his staff continue to elevate Badger Wrestling this coming season. Personally, I don't believe he's going anywhere. That said, if he ends up getting his hand slapped for recruiting violations or something concerning Gross or anyone else, he can sleep soundly knowing he shares the podium with a long retired 70-year-old man from a bygone era named Dan Gable, who actually cheated per the NCAA.
