i know we need to be careful about over-reacting to one game ..... but there are times when a game or event can serve as an omen for the future of a coach or program. Yesterday's loss was about as bad as it gets on the field and I think it may show that this is the beginning of the end of the Franklin era. I hope I'm
wrong but I don't think I am. My concern with Franklin has always been that he comes off like a rah rah type and I never cared for those kind of coaches - they are not built to last in my opinion. I feel like he and his staff are to concerned about PR and being liked rather than just focusing on football. I guess I'm a little old school and feel that a coach always needs a little "hard ass" in him. Coaches dancing with their players or seeming to talk trash on Twitter (Herb Hand) are not the type of guys I feel help to produce tough players and teams.

The good news - given the amount of money PSU is paying Franklin and his staff they will have a short leash. If things don't right themselves immediately I give Franklin just this season and next before he's canned.

The worse news - given all the crap PSU has been through since 2011, if Franklin does fail and is gone after next year then who does PSU get and do things get to the point where PSU football becomes unsalvageable and ends up like Pitt? I think this is a real possibility. I'll gladly eat crow and hope that some how Franklin proves me wrong but my gut feeling says otherwise.

matt rhule

Honestly, I don't know that Matt Rhule is even that good of a coach which makes the loss yesterday even worse. I'm not meaning to knock Rhule I just never saw much in his resume that made me think he is anything special. I guess will see how he does this season but it wouldn't surprise me if Temple goes on to play like the Temple of old.
