He had pretty much the same group of lineman 2 years in a row and there was not much improvement. Granted, they may not be the best of the best due to the sanctions, BUT any coach worth his salt should be able to coach these kids up and teach them to at least pass protect.

Good luck to Herb Hand, but after Donovan was fired I thought Hand should be fired next.

I am excited for Penn State's future.

Me too. Moorhead has an opportunity to reset and Hand goes to coach for his best friend. Everybody wins.

Nobody thinks Hand did a good job, did they?

I'm sure Hand thinks he did a good job. CJF probably thought he did OK. I'm not sure there were many more, maybe Donovan. Can't think of any others who may fall into the "good job" bucket.

His OL the last two years couldn't block my mother. Good luck Coach Hand, but I can't say I'm sad to see you go.

As far as the other coaches that have been fired or left. None of them did a very good job. Let's get some people that want to be at PSU and than can produce a winning team.

I am not here to say o line was amazing however the numbers were limited in terms of bodies....bill recruited very few. The team still had a thousand yard rusher... And Barkley has talent but he didn't do it by himself and I would guess at least half the sacks were on hack this year not the line.

Just had a visual of someone blocking your mother ( a gray hair carrying a purse).

Talk about a low bar. The next OL coach is getting a good gig with a ton of good OL waiting to get developed. Expectations are to not suck, so quite a few people should be interested. Hopefully we get someone with an attitude this time...in a good way.

It is hard to judge Hand's performance. He has had success elsewhere and obviously Mazaln thinks he's good. He was definitely a good recruiter, but our OL was bad and as others mentioned, undermanned. He has probably left the OL in better condition than when he arrived and hopefully the next OL coach has success.

agree! Not a loss. Now we have a great opportunity to upgrade this coaching position. Would love to see Munchak, but he probably would not leave the Steelers. My Dream, Munchak OL coach, Zordich DB coach, Vanderlinden returns to coach the LBs.

But Pry is coaching LBs.

I agree with LaJolla, we need someone with attitude. I don't see Mike Munchak leaving the Steelers for a college position, but OL coach Ron Heller was recently fired from the Jets along with most of their other assistant coaches. Now if you really want someone with attitude, Heller is your guy. He was nasty in college and even nastier in the pros. Franklin should take a run at him.

Talent aside thei o line's footwork wasn't even wrong it was non existent and the line made awdul blocking rule mistakes
. a coach can teach anyone the correct footwork for certain blocks and schemes. The o line the past two years had jr high fundamentals and wouldn't have been able to block if they were all studs.

like Heller as a choice. I think NFL experience can really help this position and creds to get elite OL. in reality the Franklin recruits last 2 yrs are not too bad on paper.

When the previous Auburn OL coach left for a lateral move to of all places Cincinnati, it makes me wonder what Hand is getting into down there.

Regardless, in CJF we trust to head of a great college football program coaching staff.....

Your post reminds me of the joke Miles Dieffenback made about John Urschel.

"If he's so smart, why can't he teach me calculus?"

There is only so much a teacher/coach can do.
