I have my doubts about whether the current "fighting age" generation would've had the intestinal fortitude that it took not only to make the D-Day landing, but also all of the Pacific island hopping landings, what with the preoccupation with turning boys into girls and vice versa, etc.

My mother's uncle was killed during the Battle of the Bulge, so I really appreciate so much the sacrifices that these people made, many of whom were still teenagers. That makes it even more of a shame when you see the direction that this country is headed.

Agreed. But I think there is also something to WW2 being the last justified war. Hitler and the Japanese were simply monsters. The Soviets were just as bad, if not worse, but something you can't choose your dance partner. They are chosen for you.

I'll also add that WW2 set up the USA as the world's police officers. Here we are, some 78 years later, and we haven't had a war in the world that approaches WW1 & 2. I disagree with a lot of what the USA has done over the years but potential powder kegs in places like Iraq and Iran have, so far, been averted with what amounts to skirmishes versus all-out wars. By that I mean we've had less than 8,000 KIA in combined Iraq and AF wars but WW2 we had around 300,000.

Regardless, despite some rough patches, "the greatest generation" did their jobs and set up peace in the western world for decades. One can only hope the new generations can do the same.

Agreed. I served with these guys a long time ago.

Agreed. And we were still small fry compared to losses in USSR, etc.

What we all feared from USSR, is now happening via China (internal weakening -TikTok, etc), moral rot (Woke) and about to collapse from within.

Not going to be pleasant.

Younger generations will be totally shocked about how less tolerant the Chinese will be as overlords.

Trying to avoid politics but we've had several generations of, basically, idyllic living. I know lots of immigrants from India, Romania, Russia and more who are happy to work 15 hours a day, seven days a week because they know what the alternatives are. I find that we've lost our "eye of the tiger". Sadly, it is just a matter of time until some world issue reminds us that we are all just animals who will do whatever it takes to survive and the word "fair" will no longer be used.

China now is positioning itself to be the dominant power in the world in the vacuum that is going to be created by the fall of the USA, and they aren't going to make the mistake that the USA is making now by catering to drag queens and teenage sex changes, etc. Basically, the USA is bringing a knife to China's gunfight, and we all know who ends up winning those battles. It's sad that it has come to this, but that's what has happened to all "empires" that have become fat, hedonistic, corrupt and amoral, like the Roman Empire. Unfortunately, the inanity that began in 2020 just precipitated this.

Was lucky enough to see Saving Private Ryan in the theater just a couple days after it opened. My new bride and I were the youngest in the theater by probably 30+ years. I will never forget seeing so many older patrons weeping quietly when the movie ended - what an amazingly powerful moment. My grandfather and 3 of his brothers served in WW2 and all 4 made it home, part of what was indeed the Greatest Generation.

Get an international DVD player and get the newest version of The Unknown Soldier. I watch war movies from all over and this was the best one I have seen by far. I am part Slavic and Karelian and had ancestors who served both sides in Winter and Continuation wars.

Haha “fat, hedonistic, corrupt and amoral” went bigly in 2016
