Happy 90th JoePa!

Thanks, but he's still dead and this place has an uhealthy obsession with the guy. The same guy that held the program hostage for 11 years for his own self-interests.

You're obviously a huge Penn St fan. I'm sorry Joe didn't win more games for you over those final 11 years but it's time to let that go.

BTW the seven years prior to the "dark years" (also known as the first seven years in the big ten) Penn state won 70 games and the big ten once. The seven years after the "dark years" Penn st only won 67 games and the big ten twice. Including his final year before being fired Paterno had them at 9-1 and a top notch recruiting class in the wings. That selfish bastard. We should've been 10-0.

That last year was a terrible offensive team. The 9-1 record was a lot of smoke and mirrors.

There is little doubt that the last ~15 years of Joe's reign over the football program was mostly underwhelming. PSU had superior talent in the mid to late 90's but couldn't capitalize. But that is to be expected from a man over 70. A younger Paterno would have competed for a couple of NC's with those team... particularly that 1999 team. We didn't even win a Big Ten Championship with them though.

Glad you agree it was great coaching! A record like that when you don't have a great team....how does that happen?
It happens by beating mediocre teams like the ones I highlighted below (plus an FCS school not on the list). The number next to the team is their computer rankings for that year.
