Harbaugh's D: Slow and weak.

First half assessment.

UM defense looks very very good. Their offense was very conservative. Maybe a weak OL like last year but the play calling was very conservative. Their kicking game looked OK.

Utah has a lot of team speed. Their offense came when they spread UM defense out. They stalled when they got conservative with bad field position.

The difference was the 2 INTS and missing a wide open WR for a TD.

Harbaugh's offense looks like an old Joe Paterno offense.

Believe it was 3 INTs with the last INT being a Pick-6 that ended up being the game winner. scUM's 29 carries for 76 yards isn't going to win too many games either.

I have trouble trusting someone commenting about football who said Big Ben was washed up early on last year but yeah their D is going to still suck. Of course if your football predictions hold par this might be their best defense since Bo.
It was 10-3 at halftime and I posted this: "I think UM gives up 2-3 more TDs. I see no evidence that UM scores more than 1-2." Long time since my accounting degree, but I think they each scored two TDs after the half. They stopped booker up the middle some, but got punished with the passing game. The QB is 6'7" and he smoked their D right up the middle for a TD. The altitude punished the D-line.

Sorry about your luck there, slick.

Peppers certainly was not slow. The pile on game is fun but it is game one in his UM career. They will get better in time.

That team played the hardest I have seen a Michigan team play in years. They may be short in talent this year, but they are going to be a tough win no doubt.

Agree, and they were playing at altitude in their first game, which made their big guys suck wind. Peppers is a player, but CFB is a team game and you are only as good as your weakest link.

I don't have an accounting degree but I do know that what you said here literally has zero to do with your initial post. Their D was actually surprisingly decent.

And slick, your predictions usually are wrong. Way wrong when it comes to anything sports related.

Their Defense gave up over a hundred yards rushing. The UU QB was 24 od 33. They had no picks, one sack, and a 6'7" QB broke the heart of their D for a TD up the middle, at a crucial point in the game. I hope we are not that bad.

As a late coach paterno once said about first games... Your never as good as you think and never as bad as you think.

I do think Michigan looked better coached then previous years.

Ok well these are good points. I was just blown away that you made such a kneejerk reaction to the first possession of the year. Honestly, I hope their defense does suck and is slow, it's the Big Ten team I will never root for.

They looked OK which was a huge improvement over the past basically decade of defense. And I think Utah is very good. And it's tough to play there.

dwiz's point about talent seems true. How overinflated were their recruiting rankings? Hoke seemed to be a very good recruiter.

Well the 'slow and weak' defense didn't give up the pick 6. Your halftime post, and oxygen posts, implied Utah was going to pull away late. If anything the opposite happened.

UM looks like us last year. Tough D, weak O. They are really challenged at the skill positions. Harbaugh has to make that QB "manage" the game because he's not going to win any games for you. But there isn't anyone else on the field that is going to make plays on O (although I thought Smith, the RB, looked good). They just don't have the horses.

This is good for us in that Lavert Hill is a soft commit for us and if UM improves might flip. A couple of early losses and he will solidify.

For Harbaugh, he's got Oregon St. UNLV and BYU before the B1G schedule. The only real walk over is UNLV. It will be interesting to see how UM takes this loss. On one hand, they can say they beat themselves. On the other, they beat themselves. Pressure causes panic and that causes mistakes and mistakes cause losses.

Utah is a good, but not a great, team.

The d also did not get any picks or create anything for the o. They r slow
Barring some big time speed injections they will lose a bunch of games.

They are going to have to step it up.
The reporter from the Bleacher Report said that in a few years he will be able to compete with Ohio State and Michigan State. He also said he had issues with administration on the academic standards at Stanford.
