Haven't felt this excited and confident since D. Clark was our starter at QB with C. Hack and.......

the rest of the offense.

I have confidence in the qb. It's the weak O line and lack of intensity PSU traditionally shows while playing Temple (as opposed to the almost Super Bowl like focus Temple puts on playing PSU) that I'm worried about. ;)

The thing that clearly concerns me the most, is that this is their Super Bowl and it is just such a huge game for them.

Have you ever noticed that there are never huge games for us? Just huge games for our opponents, lol

That was sarcasm, by the way.

I for one will be very happy if the offense plays well and the fire Donovan crowd don't show up on the board after the game. I am expecting massive improvement on offense this year, although they played very well in Ireland last year.

I think it is fair to say that due to success over the years and differing trajectories of programs that Penn St tends to not have a high level of focus and intensity for Pitt and Temple. On the other hand, Pitt and Temple circle the Penn St game as their most important. If not for the discrepancy in talent over the years there may have been a few more upsets. ;)

I think we kick Temple's ass on Saturday. I'm not going all the way across the state to get down in the mouth. Temple is going to find out that we ain't Delaware State.

Well, that Super Bowl focus has not helped Temple a whole lot, and it won't do them much good this week either.

I agree. I think we are going to be the surprise of the year. I think our OL will be better, as will our running game which will help Hack immensely. I predict a strong Offense and a Top 10 Defense. We will dominate the teams we should this year and if we can upset either OSU or MSU, who knows where we end up. It's week 1 and I'm sipping the kool-aid!!

I hope that Hack has worked on beating the blitz this summer. I expect Temple to bring the house on every play until our OL shows it can handle it. Those quick flair passes to backs can be deadly if he can hit them regularly.

PSU has been the team to beat in the East since our independent days. If the players coaches don't realize this, well there isn't much that can be said. I think it has gotten even worse regards to schools we used to play year-in-year-out that since we jumped to The Big Ten we now have an even larger target. These schools relied on PSU playing them every year because it was the PSU game that generated more revenue than all their other games combined... now that dollar stream isn't there and they want to 'prove' they don't need us by beating us.

That being said. All this talk about the OLine is tiresome and weak. It is really starting to show those that think the OLine won't improve know little to nothing about football... even the coaches have said the OLine is far more along than they were last year... THE COACHES. The only ? along the line is LT, and they are basing their 'assessment' off the Blue/White game... a scrimmage in which Palmer was playing his first 'game' against one of the best defenses in the country, and he had only been on campus for what 2 months? Really? GTFO.

We trounced Temple last year, and their team - while older and a bit more experienced - is the same. Same with PSU.

Can't wait for this season to get started... ya'll need something to worry about other than the quality of our OLine.

Matt Rhule actually addressed that in his Inquirer interview, and really tried to tamp down the whole thing. Actually trying to get his team to consider the whole season, not just the PSU game.

Temple has a shot at a conference title, which would get them to a bowl game. But to do that they have to beat Cincy -- which is the week after the PSU game. So the last thing Rhule wants is for his team to play PSU and then come out flat for Cincy.

It makes a lot of sense. What has happened in the past for Temple is that they play well against PSU, play a competitive game, and then not play anywhere near that level in their conference.

Also, apparently Temple's best pass rusher has a hammy and is not practicing this week. Rhule says he'll only play if he's healed -- which appears unlikely since hamstrings do not heal fast. They really want him available for the Cincinnati game and won't risk that by playing him against PSU unless he can really be effective. Anyway that might be good news for Paris Palmer.

Not sure how this could be good news for Palmer. I would think he would want to play against the opposition's best to prove he has earned his spot.

I think the idea was more one of Palmer transitioning from practice mode into live game mode. He's got the spot, now it's a question of executing the fundamentals and blocking schemes and getting in sync with his Oline mates, which will be easier going up against a lesser opponent.
