Wow - didn't see it but that is too close! I like when Zain thrashed people

Wouldn't surprise me if Zain is under the weather - he even surrendered a very un-Zain-like quick escape point at the end of the period. Props to Clagon though, tough kid.

Clagon would of never escaped if it wasn't for that long review on the phantom locked hands. He wrestled well early on and showed some nice athleticism but was clearly gassed heading into the second period and didn't do much for the rest of the match. Every time Retherford tied up the arm with his two-on-one, Clagon immediately started back peddling to the edge of the mat and the ref would not call stalling. Very frustrating match to watch.

The long no-video review definitely benefitted Clagon. In the first period he was all Zain could handle. Good tough match for Zain.

Nico single leg drags Calas back to middle for td. Calas injury time. Don't know if he hurt himself doing the split defense. Looks like his knee locked up.

The incident happened about 10 feet from my seat (perhaps even less). Nico had Calas' leg elevated (a couple of feet off the ground). I don't recall exactly the positioning, but I think Nico was on one knee, and his other leg was bent at the knee. Nico had Calas's leg across his thigh (on the knee leg that was bent at the knee). Nico had a hold on the foot or ankle of Calas's elevated leg, and lifted it. Unfortunately, most of the movement was Calas's knee twisting past it's normal range of movement.

The ref was on the opposite side of this action, and either shielded from what took place or focused on something else. I believe that if he had had a different vantage point, he would have stopped action for potentially dangerous, as that's exactly how it looked to me, and nobody was shielding me from what took place.

Calas was scared. He slammed his fist on the mat, and acted as though he felt his knee had been seriously injured. The trainer attended him, and after a bit was able to get Calas to relax and work his knee through a normal range of motion.

I was happy to see that Nico did not go after Calas's affected knee. I believe he only put pressure on that knee two times through the rest of the match.

Conway goes on bottom and he's out before I can finish typing this sentence. Tom I have all the respect for you covering most of the duals on the board.

fen, you did a great job of the play-by-play. I enjoyed reading it after the match, and seeing that you had done a great job of capturing the action from each of the matches.

You've posted play-by-play in the past when I couldn't, and I invite you to do so in the future any time I'm not in a position to do so.

Wow, the Hawkeye board has gone completely off the rails yet again. Today they've got an 80+ post thread discussing "Retherford 2-1 over Clagon", complete with the usual PSU fan hatred, NLWC and scholarship conspiracies and, of course, obligatory Andrew Long mention among other things.
