Hearing Tournament is cancelled

In fairness, there were a hell of a lot of athletes who lost eligibility - and a whole lot more - in both world wars.

I am sure that our boys will recover emotionally, but I know I've never worked so hard for something that slipped away like this.

I'm incredibly disappointed but even more so, devastated for the athletes who sacrifice so much and work so hard to achieve their goals. So very sad and we'll never see Cenzo and Mark in a PSU singlet again. Damn.

The tournament has been officially cancelled. Coaches and athletes notified within the last hour.

Wonder if they'll just grant all affected athletes 1 more year of eligibility? If they do, next year should be extremely interesting between PSU & Iowa.

I haven't heard anything about the D2 championships which is this weekend. Anyone hear anything?

Edit: I looked on UPJs website they stated it's cancelled as well. I would have thought the wrestlers were already out there in South Dakota, but guess it's better to limit exposure.

I wondered the same myself and just saw it as well. BTW, I'm a geologist.

I wrote this over on HR too. Assuming the guys aren't give another year. Just looking at the PSU-Iowa rival, it is a true shame of all the impact this has caused. I know there is a lot of anger among the fan bases on these boards, but, there is no denying the rivalry.

Spencer Lee loses his chance at being a 4-timer - This is the worst one to me. I know you shouldn't say never, but, no one was beating him.

Both RBY & DeSanto had shots at standing on top of that podium. I'm upset that we don't get to see that weight class play itself out.

It wasn't a guarantee, but, I was looking forward to a likely Pletcher vs. Lee Part 3. Another bummer.

Lugo is another one I feel terrible for. I wasn't always a big fan of his style, but, he came a long way this year and I think he had a phenomenal chance to win it all.

Not sure what Kaleb Young was going to do, but, a bounce back from BIG's certainly was out of the question based on his history.

The 2nd biggest travesty. No Bull vs. Cenzo. All their matches are great, but, that last one was a full demonstration of what wrestling is all about. Cenzo might have had 4-time finalist, 3-time champ taken away. Bull might have had his 1st championship taken away, which would have been great given the Eli storyline.

Hall & Kemerer might not have quite lived up to Bull - Cenzo, but, there were still fantastic wrestlers going at it. I'm pretty confident we would have seen that rematch. Hall might have been a 4-time finalist and 2-time champion.

This is another major bummer. Both Assad & Brooks burned their shirt, made it to the big show, and now it seems like it was a waste. I think Brooks had an outside shot as a true Freshman at this weight, and Assad definitely had AA potential.

Warner can compete with anyone, and who knows what Shak we would have seen with 2 week off. Now, we will never know.

Big Cass impressed me all year and was fun to watch wrestle. I don't think he was beating Mason or Steveson, but, I had him penciled in confidently in 3rd place.

So, for all the anger going back and fourth, in the end, we are all wrestling fans of two of the best programs going right now. Not seeing the ending is just awful for we the fans and devastating for the wrestlers.

I know athletes work hard in all sports, but, the commitment it takes to wrestle, without all of the accolades the other big sports take away is what makes it so great. My heart honestly aches for all of those kids.

You know their would have been big upsets, a surprise champ or two and a lot of great wrestling.....all gone.

I'm keeping it in perspective, but, I'd be lying to say I'm not seriously bummed out about all of this.

Well there’s a little perspective!

Bummer, but remember PSU remains the reigning champion one more year!

No mercy for those Poison Dwarfs!!! Their poor level of sportsmanship cheapens and sets a terrible example for the sport. You need to run your program with decency and respect like Cael or you will continue to be dominated by saint Cael of State College!

Is everyone in New Jersey like you? :)

Self Awareness - conscious knowledge of one's own character, feelings, motives, and desires.

“Decency & respect”?? What you you know about those concepts! It’s wrestling man! Iowa fans love it as much as we do.

Not a win for for the good guys. Everybody loses and I feel for the Iowa team, the seniors on their and our teams, and the rest of us who miss out on some great matchups.
No idea why anyone would celebrate this let alone taunt unless you only like to play when you know you’ll win.

The last time I checked, it's still a free country. After the pandemic settles down, ( and it WILL stop at some point) what's to stop everyone from getting together with their own unofficial tournament? Maybe the NCAA won't certify the results, but everyone who competes will have the personal satisfaction of having a definitive conclusion to this season.

Yup. All it takes is money, since the schools will no longer be paying.

I think any group could save the Olympics (or any tournament) right now, if they can get all the athletes and workers to agree to quarantine together in the Olympic village(s) and each stay there for 14 days beyond his/her last exposure to someone who ends up testing positive. The group also has to pay for the extra days and quarantine work and persuade a relevant government to allow it, which should be possible.

Josh Shields can put together his DIY 165-pound tourney right now. He might need a gofundme to raise money for airfares. And he would need a city/county/state that does not forbid get-togethers of his tournament size. He won’t need the quarantine business I mentioned, since one weight’s worth of people will be small enough to be allowed somewhere.

I just had a thought. If those “commies” in China can build sixteen hospitals in a week or two, and since they are great at building machines, too, wouldn’t it be cool if they’ve been building ventilators like crazy since they recognized the crisis, and then when the US runs out, they send us half a million of them? That would be cool. #brotherhood

I’d be happy just to find some toilet paper.

Mostly environmental, but have done a little of everything, including being a steelworker, among other things.
Hey, you rock nerds, get a room! Just Kidding!
Am I an unofficial Geologist? I took Rocks for Jocks and the first day of class the prof said, "Many of you call this class Rocks for Jocks and took it because you think it will be easy, but I am letting you know now it will not be easy, so drop if you don't want to memorize a bunch of different rocks and minerals!" I don't remember what I got, but I did pass fairly easily.

My lowest grade (C) was in Astronomy. Which was an open elective for geology and non geology students and the closest thing we had to rocks for jocks. I was the only geology student in the class. So the Prof had me help him with setting up and teaching some of the hands on aspects of the class. But for whatever reason I found the remainder of the class to be difficult.

I taught Rocks for Jocks at wait for it.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Pitt.

Sorry Jefe;)

Also tutored some of Pitt's basketball players when they had a good team in the Big East. Rod Brookin was one of them, who I recently learned passed away at a young age about 5 years ago. He was a really nice kid.

I would've said the class Ohio State AD Gene Smith teaches.

So the professor was wrong and it was an easy class

Speaking of easy courses....I graduated in '87 and anyone at PSU around that time might have taken or heard about the easiest course ever offered called Higher Ed 101.
I believe it was a newer course that seemed to be under the radar to most students. We met every Wednesday @ 6:00 for ~ 3 hrs in a bar. We weren't allowed to drink until afterwards (except for St Patty's Day). The instructor would give us a topic and the 20 or so students would discuss it and that was the extent of the class. No exams. If we participated consistently, we got an A.
St Patty's fell on a Wednesday one week and the quietest student was a kid from Ireland who never once uttered a word. He played on the men's soccer team. He rolled in to "class" that night with a head of steam and a big buzz and just unloaded on everyone like Don Rickles. His pent up opinions of everyone were unleashed in his think Irish accent w/o filter. He was the class comic after that night for the rest of the semester. I'm sure he didn't remember much the next day but his classmates did.
Anyway it was a great course to boost your GPA and make new friends.
