shortly after the Wisconsin loss:

“Wisconsin's loss at Illinois was devastating to the Badgers and the entire Big Ten, which could have made a case for two CFP teams if the Badgers' only loss had been to Ohio State. Undefeated Minnesota now leads the West Division, and the Buckeyes are again shouldering the league's CFP hopes.

She's not changing her mind on that unless we beat Ohio State.

Why is it an ESPN Senior Writer has to accentuate the Negative?

Kudos to the Fighting Illini for kicking ass!

,,,cheers

This idea that conferences and not teams win championships is everything that’s wrong with the college football playoff currently. Wisconsin losing should impact Wisconsin and only Wisconsin.

Whiskey is the one B1G team I consistently route for but them losing today means nothing to me

So I rarely, really almost never, listen to sports radio. But yesterday I find myself driving back home from a quick turnaround trip to the Keys. Wanted to catch up on some scores, so I put ESPN radio on.

She was on. I'd read some of the things she had written over the years, but I don't think I'd ever actually heard her speak.

I know I'm probably biased by her anti Penn State slant, but that girl is dumb as a bag of hammers. I mean really, really stupid. Makes no sense when she talks. How she is employed is a mystery to me.

Then again, we are talking about the network that has Desmond Howard on their premier CFB show....

She's absolutely right. No one gives a crap about the Rose Bowl anymore. We're playing for bigger things now like we used to do when Joe was here.

A Wisconsin loss doesn't help us at all. Do we jump them this week? Of course. But who the crap cares. It's how good they are when we beat them in the Championship Game. We want them as high in the rankings as possible.

We now have no room for error because the CFP Committee will do everything they can to keep us out. They and the rest of the National media thinks the way she does. You might not like it, but if you don't believe it you're crazy.

Wisconsin took our potential mulligan away from us yesterday. Now we absolutely HAVE to go undefeated. And even then, beating a two or three loss Wisconsin team in the Championship Game won't mean crap. The CFP Committee would LOVE to put a one loss Alabama, LSU, Georgia, or undefeated Notre Dame in ahead of us.

If Notre Dame blows out Michigan next week, and goes undefeated, with their ESPN ACC Network full share tie in, we may be toast.

Maybe that's why she was calling 17 year old athletes at midnight about games they weren't even involved in... yes this happened regularly with some of my players. She was barred from writing about our team.

I feel like I remember this being talked about in this forum in the past. Was that the only incident?

She is not right and neither are you. “The Buckeyes are shouldering the league’s CFP hopes”??????? We are undefeated. We don’t need help from anyone if we keep winning.

And ND isn’t undefeated.

I appreciate your enthusiasm but there is absolutely no way a 13-0 Penn State is left out of the CFP. I would easily agree, however, than an 11-1 Penn State won’t get past #5 unless there is significant chaos and Penn State blows out everyone but OSU.

She is such an SEC shill, not even worth the time of reading. Until Georgia shit the bed, her playoff votes went to all SEC teams. Roll My Eyes

What if Oklahoma, Clemson and LSU run the table and Alabama only loses to LSU. We'll be at home IMO.

That depends. If we beat OSU and Wisconsin then we’d be in, but as Illinois showed there will chaos. Always is. Baylor might be undefeated Big 12 champs! I mean they won’t but like so much is unknown right now.

True. Just talking about what would be the doomsday scenario for us. Also, beating Wisconsin likely won't carry much weight unless they beat Ohio State but then beating Ohio State carries less weight. It does suck now that at 11-1 we're definitely out though. That's the biggest takeaway from the Wisconsin loss.

If Penn State is one of four 13-0 teams at the end of the year I simply can’t see them being left out, even if Alabama is knocking on the door.

While the argument for OSU in front of PSU was bullshit in 2016, at least it had a minute amount of logic, even if poor. If Penn State makes it to 13-0 this year there will be wins at #18 Iowa, vs #16 Michigan, at #14? Minnesota, at #2-3 Ohio State, and one more neutral site against someone probably ranked 10-15. That’s five top 25 wins, the biggest on the road. That’s a pretty damn good resume in my opinion.

Alabama at 11-1 isn't going to be left out. There's no chance. Someone gets bumped in that scenario. Also, there's no guarantee Iowa or Michigan end the season ranked. No one cares where the teams were ranked when you played them. That's why Pitt winning is good for us. And why Michigan beating ND would be huge. The reality is that it's almost impossible that we'll have 4 undefeated P5 champs but it isn't a lock we'd get in because of the SEC.

Almost everyone will lose...the problem is we aren’t getting in with one loss either, so we’re basically just playing for the conference title.

It didn't used to be that way. Thanks bot.

Didn't she start at the Centre Daily Times?

I think she was writing for them when I was in college.

She never thinks we are worthy of a high ranking in football.

For some reason she pays attention to our basketball program, though, and occasionally used to write nice things about them.

She absolutely wrote for the Centre Daily Times. Not sure if it was her first job, but I think it was. She was from Indiana and the U of Indiana and relatively anti-PSU, especially for a home town sports reporter. There was a lot of complaining on this board about her then.

Here's a 2007 article by her about her time in State College and her problems with Paterno:

There will not, CAN not, be two undefeated SEC teams. If either PSU or OSU is 13-0, they're in. In the unlikely case they're left out, the NCAA might as well just fess up and declare that the SEC is guaranteed a minimum of 2 slots in the CFP.

ND already has 1 loss. Granted they might still have a shot to get in given their schedule and a tough road loss to UGA.

wisconsin losing also helps us if you look bigger picture beyond the playoff. We are more or less locked into the top two bowl slots in the big ten assuming nothing crazy happens. If we beat osu and win the ccg, Wisconsin losing means nothing. If we lose to OSU and they win the ccg it sets us up for the number two slot, which is almost definitely the the Rose Bowl. Before the season I think almost everyone here would have taken that.

What makes you think Oklahoma and/or Clemson would be in ahead of an undefeated Penn State? Both of their schedules would be much weaker. When the Playoff Rankings come out, Ohio State will be ahead of both of them, and we easily could be ahead of Clemson. Undefeated Penn State would make the playoff. End of story.

Clemson will be because of last year even though it shouldn't matter. Oklahoma is a good argument. We won't be ahead of Clemson.

Notre Dame probably won't go unbeaten....especially since they already lost a game.
