This sucks for a 5th year senior. Bad way to go out.
Heinselman To Miss Postseason, Will Be Replaced by Gonzales
Ohio State Buckeyes

he made it to the big dance as a freshman.... enough said. Sucks he can't fulfill his goal for the year or at least tryMalik is a kid who many of us Ohio State fans have discussed countless times who would have been a national champ, potentially even a multi national champion if he wrestled back when the old 118 pound weight class existed.
He very seldom got beat or outwrestled by kids his weight and strength….in fact I can’t recall too many from memory. And yes I know he wrestled all 125’s but if I have to explain what I mean when I say that, then just never mind lol.
Now to the contrary, Malik always came up short and struggled against the bigger, longer 125’s.. he just couldn’t get to his attacks nor off bottom for his first few years anyway. Gonna miss watching Malik.
From everything I’ve heard, he is an exceptional human being, and even better teammate. Feel for the kid, obviously.
Except Peterson teched him in the regular season matchAssuming Steen moves up one spot and doesn't beat Brown, he'd now have a bye in his first conso match.
Beat Peterson in WB2 and Gary would be on his way to Tulsa.
Brown, Peterson, and Medley all move up 1 spot. How does that affect the seedings?
I assumed they would take the easy route and bump everyone up one place and put the new tOSU guy at 14.Brown, Peterson, and Medley all move up 1 spot.
After that it's hard to tell. Gonzales went 0-2 vs. the B10 Tournament field, 6-4 to Peterson and 5-2 to Medley. He went 5-3 vs. all B10 opponents, but his best win was over McHenry.
The case to put him 10 ahead of Steen is that (1) Steen got teched by both Peterson and Medley, and (2) McHenry is better than Steen's only B10 win (Lujan). It's not an unreasonable argument, but who knows how the conference will sort it out.
They could. But IMO that's the wrong way to go. Gonzales does have a body of work.I assumed they would take the easy route and bump everyone up one place and put the new tOSU guy at 14.
It's like picking your favorite hemorrhoid.my favorite Buckeye.
It's like picking your favorite hemorrhoid.
Yeah, I’m not sure I can say I have a “favorite” Buckeye, but I’ve always had a lot of respect for him. He’s been a warrior for them for years, always in the mix. It’s sad to see such an anticlimactic end to his career. It's like picking your favorite hemorrhoid.
A big part of it is that it’s his last year. If he was hurt his freshman year, I’d feel like that sucks, but whatever, he’ll be back next year. What makes this particularly bad is that he’s been around for a long time and his career just ended suddenly without a chance to make one more run at an AA.I'm trying to recall all of the sad "hate to see this happen" comments when Penn State's Suriano was too injured to go on in the post season....
....nope...can't find a thing...😔🧐
A good part of Suriano was that he was 2nd ranked in the nation rather than 15th.A big part of it is that it’s his last year. This is correct. Gonzales was inserted at 14, so Steen moves up to 10 and faces Brown first, so Steen needs to either beat Brown and then beat Cronin in the Qs or beat the loser of Medley-Peterson in the consis OR lose to Brown and beat the winner of Medley-Peterson in the consis. Considering Steen got teched by both Peterson and Medley, it's not a good situation for him.Gonzales is 13-7 in D1 bouts, with losses to Peterson and Medley of the wrestlers going to Big Ten's. Not sure what the conference will do with that. #14 Renteria is 1-7, with his only win against a back-up. Moran is 2-6 with his only 2 wins against back-ups. Lujan is 1-6 with his only win against Moran. Lujan also lost to Steen. We all know Steen's overall results. I guess we'll know tomorrow where Gonzales will be placed. I'll guess #14.
