Here's hoping Kicker Quinn Nordin commits to Penn State tomorrow, he can also punt!

We already signed a scholarship punter for Nordin's class, you will recall.
Of course I know we have a verbal commitment from Blake Gilikin, but he is only touted as a FG and KO specialist. Quinn Nordin can also punt, similar to how we had Anthony Fera doing just about all kicking. With the lack of success we have had in the punting game since Fera left for Texas, it will be good to have 2 scholarship kickers to compete, and in case 1 goes down to injury, we at least have someone who can kick field goals (hopefully as well as Fickin did in his SENIOR year).

Jerademan74 - Somehow you seem to think that Blake Gillikin is a placekicker. He is a punter, not a placekicker and will be the only scholarship punter on the 2016 roster. Quinn Nordin is being recruited as a (scholarship) placekicker. The two of them would have separate duties.

Philly Lion: Thank you for that correction. I am sorry for my misunderstanding. Having said that, going back to my OP, let's still hope that Nordin commits to Penn State, as we can always use a good kicker!

I believe that he will end up with the Evil Empire(Michigan) because it will be tougher recruiting against JH than Brady Hoke.

No problem! Yes, I too am hoping that Quinn commits to PSU, although I must say I wonder what they are going to do with all the other placekickers on the roster. There are five right now (all preferred walk-ons): Joe Julius (PK); Tyler Davis (P/PK); Nick Boumerhi (PK); Yannik Haller (PK); and Troy Stivason (PK). If you add in Chris Gulla (P/PK) that's six.

ESPn and rvalsi list gilikin as a kicker. .

Zwick99 - they may list Gillikin as a "kicker" but he is a punter, not a placekicker. Check out his punting at the national camp - you will see that he is a punter first and foremost.

Well, the kickers on the roster right now will kick and punt during the 2015 season, as the Punter and potentially Quinn won't arrive until 2016. Julius is suppose to have a very strong leg so if he has a good year he may be tough to beat out by a freshman kicker. Or Julius may end up just kicking off, or.... But as far as the numbers at "kicker", most are kickers, not punters, and those beyond the 2 deep once this season begins may begin to drop off the roster.

As for punting, unless we have a new and talented walk on for this year, or one of the holdovers eats spinach and all of a sudden starts booming them, the scholarship kicker probably has a great shot to come in and start as our punter in 2016. Punting was the weakest part of our team last year (close battle with OL, but the "winner" is punting).......

UM signed a kicker last year, so there is debate about being able to have two on schollies.

I doubt that he ends up at Michigan, unless they get rid of the other scholarship placekicker on the roster. Everybody seems to think that Nordin and Harbaugh have parted ways.
